Virtual Quilting Weekend--1/16-1/19/26

Welcome to the first VQW in 2026 :). I am headed to Florida Saturday to visit my mother for a week while DH takes care of the house and the cats. She said it's going to be cold and to pack my winter clothes! I'm planning to take some handwork with me. I think I can finally do some now. I cut my thumb quite badly in December, it's still not totally healed but I think it's okay enough to be able to hold things (it's my left thumb). We'll see I guess! :) I plan to visit a shop or two while there.

So what are all of you working on? Quilting, organizing, planning, shopping? Would love to hear what you're all up to. Next month's VQW is February 13-16.

Have a lovely time in Florida and keep in mind that cold is relative... for me it was lovely visiting Phoenix recently, my friend had to be in heavy sweats and long sleeves :)

We did get the reveal for the Bonnie Hunter project, so I am still working away. I had gotten caught up on the clues before the last one and the sewing is going quick and easy to make the blocks, but there is still a lot to do. I usually give myself until Valentine's Day to get the top together (so that will fit with next VQW), and then sadly quilting down is still somewhat optional. This project, however, I plan to keep so that motivates finishing a bit more.

Have a lovely trip and visit.

This year I'm honestly digging into my stash and using what is here, so far three charity quilts have been finished this month. Sometime today after my chiropractor appointment there will be a new one started using CAT Junior Crew by Riley Blake and I even have 3 yards for the backing, so nothing to buy! Of course it also all depends on how the hubby is feeling as he had some extensive dental work done yesterday and this morning he looks like a chipmunk. I'll be making more jello, tapioca, and other soft foods for him, so dividing my time between the kitchen and sewing room. Wish me luck!

Well, as the weather has turned to crap here in Iowa too, no shopping with my sister as she's on oxygen and the cold really bothers her so I'll just pick up a few things only that's on my list. Then head to the quilt room and continue working on the Forest FLoor by Wings in a Prayer. I'm down to the bottom 2 leaf blocks and all those numerous sashings. The sashings I'm doing crosshatch pattern but having to do it mostly manually as my robotics is shifting to the left on me. Then onward to the last border before I turn the quilt to finish the borders and sashings on those sides. Tomorrow will be another nasty day so a great day to stay indoors again.

This will be my last king size quilt I had wanted to finish in 2025 but that's okay as this will be a great finish for January. Already have the next quilt hanging next to the quilt frame.

I'm in this weekend. I have to finish the fix to my SIL's quilt, I was pressing and removing strings from the back of the quilt and found one square that had a piece of fabric with a small slit. I'm trying to do this gently so I don't have to repress everything.

Also we are planning on a move in the fall so I will start the "Lets clean the sewing room and see what I really want to move" I know some of you have done this in the last 2 years so any advice would be helpful!!!

Also I will layer any small UFO's I find in my cleaning to get them finished.

I have a guild sew day tomorrow, so will definitely be checking in. Might work on my scrappy chandelier quilt today.

Count me in! Plan is to 1) finish child quilt on longarm, 2) load and quilt next compassion quilt for church 3) piece backing and maybe load big turning twenty quilt that I'm doing for a friend, 4) continue to cull and donate fabric to the same friend. Cold weather really helps my quilting.

I will be cutting blocks for a quilt that l will be giving to 3 friends. One will be a cardinal. One will be a crow. The 3 rd will be something. She had not told me her favorite bird so l will have to decide what one to make her. All 3 will be originals and l will never make those quilts again. I am not even going to retain the patterns. Nor will l be posting pictures as l am making only original of these 3 quilts.

l don’t do originals very often but when l do one l never keep the patterns.

I’m in! Going to start working on Tim Holtz Scrap Petal quilt I started in October and haven’t worked on much since. Had a lot of trouble with the adhesive for the appliques. Finally, just pulled it off and going to use Elmer’s glue stick and stitch the petals down after getting them arranged. Good weekend for this. Cold and snow pretty much for the next week here. Met some DFs for breakfast this morning. Glad DH drove - cars in the ditch, black ice and snowing when we left. Chill factor 10, yesterday it was in the negatives.

Fix is done!!! After my appointment this afternoon I will re-press it and post a picture. I don't think I will need to press the entire top again, I folded and pinned it carefully to stabilize things before I disassembled it. Just going thru piles and putting things away until I leave for my meeting.

Cam's gram - I love Elmer's school glue, I use it for both applique and sandwiching the quilts.

73+quilts - I would love to see pictures of what the 3 quilts are going to look like.
