Mattress cover

My granddaughter has mattress that is a little larger than a crib mattress and she no longer needs it. She wants to make a cover for it, make some pillows, and place the mattress on the floor up against a wall with the pillows as the back. It would look like a small sofa for her very young children. The cover would need to be removable so it can be washed after any spills. The pillows she can do with a little help from me. It’s the mattress cover that we are open to any suggestions. She decided a couple of months ago that she wanted to start sewing. I can no longer quilt so I gave her my stash and she bought an inexpensive Janome. She has become a natural at sewing. I’m so proud of her. TIA

Why not make something like a pillow case (only big enough for the mattress) and put a zipper on one end. That way she won't have to have issues with it popping off of the corners with the kiddo moving around on it. That way it would stay on, but still easy to take off to be washed if needed.

This was my thought.

Thank you Quiltingcotton and Cashs mom. I'll try to help her with the zipper. I’m not too good with zippers but hopefully we can manage. Thank you again.

maybe you can use the same idea but make ties instead of a zipper. Of course not long enough for it to become a danger to the chikdren!

Or you could use velcro.

Or aafety pins. Not elegant, but eeffective.

Or construction like a mattress pad or fitted sheet. one could box the corners so it would not slide around much. It would be a challenge to fold it neatly for storsge.

You can also get those suspender-like elastic clips that go across the corners. I'd be doing everything I could to avoid zippers, myself! :-)

Velcro is a great idea. Ties would work also. Anything to avoid a zipper. Thanks everyone.
