Charity/Donation Ideas
 

I have a group of women that meet monthly in my home. We enjoy a meal, fellowship, and doing things for our community. In the past we have done totes for a women's shelter, pencil rolls and back packs for Shoebox, dignity bibs for nursing homes, fidget blankets for nursing homes, pillowcases for Fostering Hope and women' shelter, sanitary needs for overseas, receiving blankets and burp rags for Birthright, quilted prayer blocks to hand out, you get the idea. My problem is we have run out of ideas and are looking for ideas. Keep in mind that not quite half of the twelve actually sew, the rest are good with cutting, matching fabrics etc. So I have to keep that in mind when finding a project. All of us except one, are retired. Thought I would come to this board for inspiration. Also, we are 70 or so miles from a large town and that makes a difference also. Thanks!!

do you have a local meals on wheels? I've heard some make placemats and napkins?

You could make hug quilts from the Hug Project. My guild makes wheelchair quilts, which are smaller lap quilts with the bottom angled so corners don't catch in the wheels.
Lots of great ideas in your list of what you have done, though, that I'm going to take from!

We are looking into the hug quilts but we weren't for sure whether it would work for our group to be able to make. We have lots of scraps, can you tell me more about your lap quilts? We definitely have lots of nurshing homes in our region. Thank you.

Pillow cases for Foster Care Children

My guild gets requests for placemats for food trays. The placemats really brighten up a meal for the residents. Also wheelchair and walker bags.

Onebyone are you talking about fabric placemats? Have you made any? Also do you use a special pattern for the wheelchair and walker bags? I know there is a need for some of those. Thank you.

Lena we have made a lot of pillowcases. I have some to be delivered to our Fostering Hope and to our local women's shelter right now. We like to make these. The women's shelter gives everone that comes through a new pillow and pillowcase. Cuts down on lice. Thanks! Very good suggestion.

I have made and donated quilts to chemo patients to use during chemo and have also donated to a place called Sarahs House in Maine, it is a place where people can stay during the week that have to travel to receive cancer treatments, there is a trunk in every room, with quilts in it that the person can pick from to use during their stay/treatment and use to cover up during their treatments and keep after treatments are finished.

I work at our local hospital, and make and donate baby quilts to our womens health office. The medical assistants offer them to the new expecting moms.
