Unboxing new Bernette

My new Bernina Bernette B79 is finally out of the box. I've printed the user manual and studied that until I want to throw it out the window in frustration. Binge watched all the Utube videos. So many unanswered questions. Decided to go ahead and take it out of the box and just tinker with it. Feels like I'm learning to sew all over again. Can't even remember how machine embroidery works. Anyone else have a new Bernette?

There are a few new ones out. Which one did you get? I saw there is a new Harry Potter one available now. I have never used a Bernette but have seen them at retreats. The owners were very happy with them.

I have a new one. Bernette 77 I think. I mainly wanted more automated stitches than my 45 year old Bernina offered. I was just playing with it yesterday, following the manual. I had a crazy quilt block that was created in a guild class. so I used some of the decorative stitches along the seams. I played with stitch length and width.

Didn't you test drive it at the dealers? Did they not offer a class? 2K+ spent and no clue? Obviously I'm missing something

I haven't had a Bernette, but have had several Berninas. Berninas are a bit different than other machines but i've used them so long that a lot of things are natural to me now. I did notice when I bought a 475 a few years ago that many things were the same as my 30 year old Bernina which made things easier.

I've always bought from a store so I got the free user classes. They were very helpful. You might try finding some of those to help you get started.

Does your model come in designer color or art? Just wondering. I think the special edition machines are fun to have. There are youtube unboxing and using every brand of machine there is. No need for dealer to show you anything. In fact several dealers here say watch youtube, no classes needed.

First problem resolved. I couldn't figure out why the upper thread was under tension with the presser foot in the up position.
Last resort, turn off the machine and unplug from the power source. No luck. Sat and thought about it. Couldn't be in a programmed setting once I'd defaulted it back to factory settings. Not the threader. What? What? Something disrupting the upper thread path, so I opened the cover to rethread and Ding! Ding! Ding! The machine is designed to run with the cover open, at least with the large spool cap in place.

Yes, the local seller has free classes and I hesitate going for a couple reasons. Besides the fact that I'm bullheaded and want to figure things out on my own. And I love to gripe.

It's just the plain Jane B79. I bought it brand new on sale, before the price went up. I think they want $2,999.00 now.

I had a lesson on the new Bernette77, but I still need the manual to operate! I used it yesterday for an embroider stitching on my quilt binding! I stitched Waves along the edge.
