finger foods
At many meetings there are snacks and/or finger foods. Due to health and allergies, I can't have sweets and cheese. So I try to provide something savory. And often provide it with gluten free option.
Here's one I did today; Humas with ___________________ Mediterranian Humas Chopped cucumber, tomatoes, chives (chop, salt and drain) Dried basil (fresh would be better but it's not in season) Mix and let refrigerate 6-20 hours. Serve with sliced Bagette. Here's one I plan for "hold on your lap-no tables" 8 oz creme cheese softened 1 pkg spring vege soup mix Chopped radish or water chestnut 1 6oz pkg frozen chop spinach, thaw and squeezed 1/2 cup chopped green onion or chives Chopped red bell pepper approx 8 oz chopped cooked meat (think I'll use sureme-fake crab) Mix together Spread on large soft tortillas. Roll. Refrigerate. When firm slice into rounds. What do you like for snacks? |
When taking finger food to a group I buy it ready made. Too much trouble to make a lot and many are squeamish about homemade food. I buy frozen small cream puffs; they are always gone first. They are perfectly thawed from home to table. For savory finger foods I buy the small quiches that are okay at room temp. Everyone must like them as both are all eaten. I save the healthy snacks for everyday home eating. Everyone needs indulgence to the bad side now and then. My favorite snack is sliced cucumber with Ranch powder sprinkled on top. Sliced tomatoes with basil and mozzarella balls with olive oil. For sweet I like ice cream.

Interesting you put this out here now. I've just been asked to take an appetizer to a function in a couple of days and have been looking for something simple. Since I have an abundance of farmer sausage in my freezer, I think I've settled on baked barbeque sausage bites. I just need to figure out how to serve them warm.

Warm snacks can be tricky. Even for pot luck, I take cold food.

I take a slice of sandwich sliced meat (smoked turkey or ham?) and a slice of cheese. Roll them up and make pinwheel slices. Add a toothpick if needed. Low carb snack.
