Some of the advertising items that I have kept and use:

Good quality pens
Back Scratcher (minnesota russco )
Jar opener
Post-it type note pads - with minimal printing
candy


Not so much :

Refrigerator magnets
Note pads with only five pages of paper
Tiny blankets
Flyers larger than 8.5 x 11
Eye glass cleaner thingy
those teeny tiny calendars
bookmarks I use post-it flags - that way I can tell about where on the page i should be looking

I used to be - if it's free, I will take one.
Now - much more selective

How about you

i expect the item to have some sort of logo on it. How else would I remember where the item came from?

My guild uses a rubber stamp of our logo to stamp fabric sale table give away items. We use fabric ink. It doesn't wash out. It was inexpensive to have the stamp made but that was year ago still probably worth the cost. It still stamps perfectly.

I spent years as the conference chairperson for a provincial organization. As such, I was in charge of selecting swag and things I am still using are:

post-it notes (with little writing)
a toque
6" ruler
lightweight cloth bags
and my all-time favourite - a rip-stop nylon bag that folds up into a small, flat pouch; I scored three of them and keep them within easy grabbing range in my car so there's always one in my pocket when I go into any store. They hold more than a regular grocery bag.
The advertising trinket that I've had the longest is a bottle opener and I'd be upset if it were to be lost.

I also save pens but have become somewhat of a pen snob and prefer what I like so saved pens are not being used.

Onebyone, I am trying to imagine what you would rubber stamp and then give away on a fabric table. Won't people just cut off the piece with the stamp on it? The whole idea seems like extra work for no gain.

I wish they would stop with the mugs, wine glasses, water bottles, etc. Doesn't everyone already have enough of those? And I for one do not want advertising on my wine glass.

Our giveaways are items made from fabric. Sorry for the confusion.
The bottom of a pincushion, inside the small tissue holders, inside small drawstring bags, on any item we were giving away. The stamp is much faster than sewing on a label. If the stamping was cut out the item would be ruined.

Ahh, thank you for the clarification. And thank you for mentioning small drawstring bags! I think they would be great little giveaways and trial sewing a few to find the best size is my next project. We use giveaways to advertise our quilt show and I like to have something different every year.
