Need Color Help/Ideas
 

I have 12 of these Dresden Plate squares. What colors should I use? They are dark navy blue and white. TIA

How are you planning to lay then out? Im guessing you're looking for a sashing color.Your options are probably whites to blend with the background, navy to keep the monochromatic look, or a pop of color where Id probably go with red or yellow, but lots could work.

My personal inclination would be to sash with dark navy and use cornerstones to add some color. I agree with Cedar's color choices; reds or yellows. I think a muted mustard yellow would give it color without overly disctracting from the Dresdens.

I like this idea. Mustard yellow would be a nice contrast accent.

I have the Ultimate 3-in-1 Color Tool...it tells me what colors best coordinate with a certain color that I'm using. For navy/white as your main color it tells me to use any of these as a split complementary, lighter blue, orange, yellow orange (mustard) or yellow. It also tells me that for a Triadic look to use blue, red, yellow green. Since your fabric is to clasic looking I would go with a gray blue or a mustard tone. Good luck with your choices.

The picture looks like black and white to me.

I think i would try a "solid" black (or navy);or white first . Maybe alternate black ( navy) and white backgrounds for a checkerboard background.

try laying the plates on different colored backgrounds. Sometimes one has to learn what definitely does not work before getting to something that does work.

Offhand, i think dark brown, dark green, or eggplant would not look good.

Oops! I thought the plates were still 'loose". What are they applique on?

Mayhe something with a microdot print? it would read as a solid.





Maybe try various shades of pink or blue? maybe a gray - but the shade of grade wouod matter.

I think you need some contrast to make the plates stand out - a bright color like pink, orange, even lime green.

Those blocks are beautiful. Have you tried a quilt designer yet? You can upload a photo of the quilt block and then place it in a quilt designer, adding sashing and borders to see how different colors look with your block. You can also place your blocks in the quilt designer straight or on point. Then you can save the different quilts you create in the program and save them in your own file. I did this for my granddaughter's quilt blocks and it helped me decided how to lay out the quilt. My son created this software.
