I bought a Brother but it is very noisy. Need an inexpensive lightweight second machine for travel. Can you recommend one?

what's inexpensive? Janome Gem is a good one.

Old Singer Featherweight.

I want to keep it under $200; less is better! Thanks for your reply!

I got my featherweight on ebay for 180.00

Hubby just got me a little Brother CE4000 on Overstock.com. It was refurbished and while it doesn't have any of the bells and whistles of my Bernina, it does a nice job and has some nice fancy stitches that are nice and the stitches can be up to 7mm. I got a generic FMQ foot and walking foot but haven't tried them yet. Nicest, it is only 11 pounds.

I have a Janome Gem Gold 660. Its perfect and practical for quilt weekends, or if you meet outside your home at a quilting group. There's not a lot of bells and whistles, and its very light weight. Perfect for travel and packing purposes. It came with a cloth cover bag and I also received a "quilters kit" that had additional feet... walking foot, darning, 1/4" quilt foot, etc... all for under $300.

I have used this one for years, its my back up now.

Does a nice job, easy to use, and light. Nothing fancy, my first project on it was my wedding dress. 25 yards of Plum colored Satin.

Wow! I really appreciate all the ideas. I wish Singer still made the Featherweight, and I will watch for it. Unfortunately, the Amazon machine is out of stock right now but will look elsewhere.
I'm wondering about any metallic machine noise with the less expensive Janomes - Gem and ThreadBanger or the 3128?....

They actually do still make something called a featherweight, but not the same. The old ones are the best and known for being a quilters machine. Keep and eye out on Craigs list you might find one there for 200. Even here in CA, I have seen them on Craigs list for that. If there are a lot of featherweight for sale of Ebay, you have a good chance. I bid on mine and just let it go. I had put in for more than 200 and still got it for 180, you just have to be patient.
