On TV some years ago I saw a quilt made by someone's great gm., maybe great, great gm. Anyway it had "plumes" (like the shape of those Sally Rand used in her act) -- getting a clue as to age? -- anyway, it was a plain white quilt with these plumes stitched everywhere. I was madly in love with this quilt, and can't find a comparable pattern anywhere.

Can anyone tell me what the pattern is, and where I can get it?? I'm sure I only need a single template and I can go from there. ;)

Well, I think that that type of quilt is called a whole cloth quilt. Maybe that will give you a place to start searching.

were the "plumes" as you call them stiched on as the quilting or a piece of fabric? if it was an added piece of fabric start looking at applique quilts. but if it was a whole cloth quilt and stitched plumes, or quilted, it's a technique of quilting called feathering. We have a couple of experts in that on this board. good luck! and if this doesn't help, maybe try to find a similar picture to post to help us get a better visual? i'm very visually oriented so if i have a picture for reference i'm good to go :)

Feathering, that sounds reasonable. Those plumes of Sally Rand's were only huge feathers.

Here's a site I really like for whole cloth patterns, I know what you are talking about with the plumes, but I haven't seen a whole cloth quite like that yet.

It may have been a whole cloth design that someone quilted from their own pattern, or a trapunto design maybe? I would suggest looking up whole cloth + feathers and/or + trapunto quilt patterns or images and see if this is what you have in mind.

We're on the right track. Only, the one I saw only had half the feather, it sort of tended the way a feather in the wind would, curving slightly left or right.
Wow! That page has some gorgeous quilt patterns on -- thanks for that in any case.
