I have recently purchased a Janome DC2010. It is a very nice machine. I bought a free motion quilting foot for it on EBay, I think I got the wrong one as it does not touch the fabric??? So....I am thinking of getting another and also a 1/4 inch foot....but now I am nervious because there are so many different varieties and they are all starting to blurr together for me. Do any off you know what is the best to buy????
Thank you,
Nancy

Did your machine come with a parts list?
Do you have a local dealership where you can see which feet go to your machine?
You definately need a walking foot.
A 1/4 inch foot, maybe, if your machine dosnt have a setting for it.
My machine came with all the feet I needed. Its a Viking.
A darning foot is a good free motion quilting foot. I think most machines come with one. I never thought about it but maybe it dosnt touch the fabric.

Not an expert here but I don't think the foot touches the fabric you control the quilt. Maybe someone with more knowledge on your machine can help more but I know mine doesn't really touch the fabric.

When you tried the foot from Ebay, was it just one layer of fabric, or batting and two layers of fabric? You don't want the foot to be tight on the fabric so you can move it around while quilting FM.

My darning (free motion) foot hovers just above the fabric and only goes down a little when stitching. It's not supposed to hold your fabric in place.

Janomes usually come with a lot of extra feet. Go to your local dealer and look at the feet that you're thinking of buying then you know you'll get the right ones.

I have a Janome, not this model, and the FMQ foot I bought as an extra doesn't have the bar that goes over the needle screw, instead there is a little wheel on the shaft of the foot that you adjust so that the foot just skims the fabric. Is yours maybe a similar type? It looks like this. You turn the little wheel to make it go up and down. :-D

I don't have the same brand machine, but my foot doesn't touch my fabric either... If it did, it would cause the fabric to drag underneath it and it would defeat the purpose of the foot
