I am working on an English Paper Pieced Grandmother's Flower Garden pattern and have been wondering how it would look if I appliqued the flowers on a background instead of piecing the entire quilt top with hexagons.

I have searched and searched but can only find pictures of pieced tops. I guess I am "search engine challenged" LOL Could I get a little help in locating some pictures?

Don't get me wrong ---- I love the quilts that are done entirely with hexagons --- I'm just looking for options ---- and thought doing applique might give me more choices when it comes time to quilt the top.

Thanks a bunch ---- have a happy day!

I have never made one of those but it sounds great to me to applique the flowers. I can't wait to see it.

I've only seen (and have one) that has been pieced all together! I don't know that much aboout applique, but alot of people on this board and I'm sure they can give you the head's up!!

Isn't Grandmothers Flower Gardesn suppossed to be hexagons? The encircling hexagon colors form the 'flower'? I'm confused.
I have seen them made into their respective shapes and then appliqued onto the back groound and also the background incorporated into the design.

I have seen them (middle with 6 hexs around) appliqued to a background square with stem and leaves added....put together with sashing strips should be really pretty.

My dil has one her mom made for her when she went to college that is appliqued to the background. It looks really cute done that way.

Thank you for finding these pictures. I bow to the search engine goddesses! This forum and all the members always come thru with great advice and willingness to search and help others. Thanks so much.

I love the last picture found by Beverly....that is just adorable. I'm still debating what to do with mine. lol

I guess I will just keep making the flowers and wait for them to tell me how they want to be put together. I've had the fabric I'm working with for years and years ---- it finally spoke to me after waiting patiently all this time ---- it whispered "Grandmother's Flower Garden" and it was right!!!!!
