Hello! My name is Ann. Have been sewing off & on since high school. Just finished a 'real' quilt (as my sister calls it) for my neice this Christmas. Have another cut out ready to start sewing on. Also crochet & do counted cross stitch. End up collecting more patterns on everything than I can ever do in my lifetime, but that's the fun of it:)

That is some of the fun of it all. I crochet, sew etc myself and more ideas and fabric than I know what to do with. Still would like more as well. Welcome from Legal Alberta

That was just cruel. They should be encouraging you not being mean. Though you are not the only one that something like that has happened to. On spring break when I was visiting my mom, we went into a quilt shop and I was asking her about her long arm machine, it was visible from where we were. She had the gall to imply that I would never be able to learn how to use it. Now I don't have one quiet like hers yet but I do have the quilting table and a grand quilter from phaff. I am very happy that none of that goes on at this site. Everyone here is encouraging and helpful.

I've been quilting since I was about 20 and I look young for my age. I remember going into a quilt shop back then to look at things. The lady there followed me around like I was going to steal something...made me kind of disappointed in quilting for a while.
Welcome, Ann! You should have lots of fun here! |
Welcome! I've had salespeople follow ma around, too. It makes me nervous. As to cheater cloth, there are many ideas of what makes a quilt. Some purists beleive it is a bed covering only, others consider it strictly an art form. I used cheater cloth to learn machine quilting - did not want to risk ruining a top that I worked hard to piece. I have been seeing some that are very pretty being framed in patchwork.

Hello again. The quilt I just finished this Christmas was along the lines of a picture frame block. My 7 yr old neice wanted a cat on a horse but decided that cats on one side & horses on the other was okay. Found all kinds of cat prints/activities & fussy cut them into 5 inch blocks. Framed with a 1 inch white strip the a 2 inch colored strip. Each block had different colored strips. The back was a fleece print of running horses.
The 'cheater quilt' that my sister referred to was a piece of white material with a printed cross stitch design/saying with preprinted quilt lines. Even made a sm cut in the material when cutting a thread so covered it up with a satin heart. Her daughter still has it 24 yrs later & cherishes it. Currently ready to start another quilt--have the different sized pieces cut out & ready to sew. Sticking to straight edges right now. Will wait until I've done a few more before delving into curved lines & triangles. I know I will have questions then. Thanks for all the encouragement. |
