Hey, y'all!
I just finished a baby quilt and want to wash it but I'm not sure if I should use regular detergent on it? I seem to recall ... many years ago ... that I used a baby detergent on my children's things. Anyway, should I run it through in just water or maybe Woolite? or, if it fine to just go ahead and put it through like regular wash w/ Tide? Thanks, yarnball |
I'd wash the heck out of it. You want it absolutely clean when the baby gets it. Fabrics are full of toxic chemicals. The baby's mother can launder it with dreft from here on out.

I agree...wash it with whatever you normally use and let her know that you did and even suggest to her that she wash it again with her own detergent if she feels the need to.

Thanks so much for your help. I'm fairly new to quilting so I like to ask first!

I always use detergents without scent or dye when I launder baby stuff...like the tide sensitive. Just in case there are unknown allergies.

When I make a baby quilt I always wash them in babydreft or Ivory Snow, before I give them as gifts.

I agree with PamH, I use Dreft for washing baby quilts. It's good for the baby & the quilt.

I agree Dreft, Quilt Soap or Ivory Snow. These are what I wash all my quilts and sweaters with. Stay away from Woolite.

I don't pre wash and unless it needs it when done, I just inform whomever that it hasn't been washed........just like buying new stuff
