I don't know why I cannot do this. Every time I tug on the thread to hide my knot it will either not go thru or the thread breaks. Does anyone have any special tips or tricks? My knot is very small and I am using 100% cotton quilting thread.

Try scratching the knot and the fabric near the knot with a fingernail while you are pulling on the thread. Scratching helps the fabric fibers separate to allow the knot to go through.

Are you using batik fabrics, by any chance? They are more tightly woven than regular quilting cottons and therefore harder to quilt.

One more suggestion: before you bury the knot prepare a little whole in the fabric with you needle tip just at the point where the knot will go into the fabric. The fibres just seperate, they do not break.

I do the same thing and if it is batik it is harder.

I also don't cut off the tail. I was taught to put your needle right under the fabric where the knot was pulled through and kind of circle it under the tail and it will pull the tail right under. I hope this makes sense.

also be sure you're not going down, thru the back, go just thru the top deep enough to go into the batting and sideways then back up thru the top.

Keep your thumbnail on the knot when pulling it through. It will pop right in and not break. This along with the quilter's knot has been the two best sewing tips ever.
