I want to purchase a steel plate to rest my steam iron on in the down position.

I've seen them at my local Hancocks but I don't know about leaving the steam on while it's on it, may make a mess.

I would not leave the steam on. I get frustrated because I have an auto shut off on my new iron..thought if I had a plate, I could leave it in down position. I will check hancocks. Thanks

I have a metal iron stand that angles up keeping one end of the iron up about 2 inches so the steam isn't a problem. It has raised strips of silicon so the metal doesn't get hot. It has Euro-Pro printed at one end, no other markings.

If you have the auto shut-off on your iron, you cannot leave it in the down position for more than 30 seconds and then it shuts off. This is a safety feature so that if your iron accidently gets knocked over or if you leave it on the face, it will shut off automatically so it won't scorch your fabric or anything else.

JoAnn's carries the silicone mat. It's shaped like an iron, runs about $7.99 (I think)

The auto shut off does not turn off my iron if I keep the front end of the iron down and the back end raised up on my angle iron stand.

I found an Oliso on sale! It has little legs that lift it up when you let go. I've seen them at some shops and they looked so neat. Now I press and slide it over and just leave. Nothen gets burned and it's very stable. Love it

My boyfriend's mom just got me a silicone one from Hancock's on clearance for $0.25. I haven't tried it yet, not sure how well it works.
