........and I "invented" it! (also made a wheel the other day.... )
I was looking for a 3D butterfly and could not find one.

I hope you like the idea and maybe someone has ideas for improvment.

from an ugly flower to an ugly butterfly

as it was too much 3D to me I made the lower part as applique (part of an butterfly machine embroidery design) and for the body I added a piece of piping

playing around with 3D blocks I came up with this ugly flower that almost looked like a butterfly

as it was very late I twisted clouds and upper wings......

so this morning I did draw another shape

made "stencils" of the shape

put fabric right sides together and sewed with little stitches, then cut the seamallowence

turned inside out and fixed it with spray to the background fabric

just try to picture the lower wings a bit further apart, the upper wings a slightly littler...........wouldnt it be a beauty?

This is a block with lots of possibilities. By the way, I reinvent the wheel everytime I do anything. Maybe that is why it takes me so long to get anything done.

How cute! Won't we have to stitch down the top wings so that when it's washed, doesn't crumble up? This is a wonderful idea, keep creating more !

By the way...li like that 1st photo of the flower!

What a great idea with the crinkly plastic toy filling! Where did you buy that?? As I will not use that particular block I did not sew it down, but I think a similar stitching like on the lower wings would be fine. Maybe also put some thin batting under the applique of the lower wings to make it a bit puffier.

Look forward to more input, thanks so much.
Ever thought of a ladybug in 3D?
