Reading some of the posts on using starch I'm beginning to wonder if I'm doing it wrong. When you spray your fabric are you suppose to let it dry before you iron it? I have always just sprayed and ironed at the same time. Is it better to wait for it to dry?

old habit I spray on the backside of te fabric and wait a bit too.

I take my fabric and garments in the bathroom and spray them over the tub. No starch on the floor in my sewing room by doing this. I iron right away or roll up if I have more than one item until I'm ready.

Ok let me ask another question on the starch issue.... if you spray and wait , how long do you wait ?

I spray then wait only until the starch soaks into the fabric. On some fabrics the starch wants to bead up on top so then I fold it over on itself and force the fabric to absorb. Then I iron it while it is still damp / wet. I think you can do it however you prefer. If you notice the starch flaking, you may want to wait and let it dry first.

I spray and wait. I wait until the moisture spreads out almost evenly into the fabric. You can tell you have waited enough by the color change in the fabric; when it's done, all the fabric will be the same color of "damp." LOL...

as far as i know, the only reason to wait is to let the starch absorb into the fabric. in some cases, with some starches, if you don't wait, the starch forms white flakes when it hits the hot iron.
one advantage to the maryellen's best press starch is that you don't get white flakes, so you don't have to wait. (and it smells lovely too)

I spray and iron...experiment and see what works best for you...remember there are no quilt police! (aren't you glad?)
