I've seen quilts made with a simple block but I never paid attention to the name of it.
It's a square with a smaller square in the center but it's NOT on point. What's the name of this block, please? I was thinking it might be a good one to teach to my 10 1/2 yr old DGD. (She always insists I mention the "1/2" in her age...lol) Thanks in advance. |
square in a square or box in a box. Not sure ,, but I think that is it.

This is a pretty easy block to put together

Try quilterscache.com, Square upon Square and Squares Within Squares 2. Not exactly what you are looking for, but close. Or you might try this. Cut a 6-1/2" square. Sew 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" strips to the sides. Then sew 2-1/2" x 10-1/2" strips across the top and bottom. I tried to figure out the finished square, but it's early and I haven't had my coffee yet, but you get the idea. Have fun! Both my GDs are learning to quilt (8 and 11 years). One is doing the disappearing nine patch and the other a snowball quilt.

I've been to Quilterscache before I posted but I couldn't find it.
And unfortunately the one you posted isn't quite right either. I'm sorry for any confusion. |

I love teaching my DGD. Now her 8 year old brother is wanting to learn how to use my machine. Maybe I'll get him hooked too! |
It would be easy enough to make, just draw it out. One center square 1/3 the size of finished block + 1/2inch for seams, two the same size for either side, then strips the same width for either side.
Bento box is similar http://webpages.charter.net/cmladronka/bminorblock.htm |
