You can fold them in half, opposite corners to make a triangle and then make butterflys, I'm sure there's tutorials or web sites that will show you how. There's also some pics on here where people have recently made wall hangings using lace, old pictures, buttons, small jewelry, etc., and just the corners of hankies.

How about a pattern that I saw in an LQS, they made dresses and used a new hanky as the victorian dress in each block. I think if you google dress quilt pattern something should show up. It was beautiful so colorfull and 3 dimnensional, www.clotilde.com has one

I just read an article in a magazine about using hankies in a quilt. It recommended using an iron on fusible on the back of the hanky to stabilize it. It also makes the hanky not so see thru. Then the hanky was topstitched to a quilt square and treated like a regular quilt block. It made a very pretty quilt. I too collect hankies and plan on making a quilt with them.

I made this wall hanging with my vintage hankies. Very easy and a nice way to show them.

A friend recently gave me over 50 linen hankerchiefs she has collected and I have almost 30 different styles of hankerchiefs in my grandmother's things along with many different styles of gloves she wore for all occassions. I have been pondering how to use the gloves and hankies in one quilt. Lots of ideas, but no action yet. Any suggestions?
