I have been looking for a christmas ornament pattern that you take a piece of square styrofoam and then you take scraps of material and press edges of material in the styrofoam to make a quilted looking ornament. Am I making any sense here? HOpe some one can figure out what I'm talking about. Thanks so much. I love this forum.......

My Grandmother use to take small pieces of material and use a round styrofoam ball. Just take a butter knife and push the edges in the ball in the shape of the material then take another one and do it all over again until the ball is covered. Your can anlso take small beads and stick them in after you are all done to give them some colorJust use small straight pins to keep the beads on. Use yarn for the hanger. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions just PM me. OraLee

I made these long ago, but mine were a round sty ball. Just used my seam ripper to put in the fabric pieces, didn't use a pattern. They turned out nice. Lace

I haven't done them w/ round @ Christmas, but did egg-shaped styrofoam w/ 30's and springy calicos for Easter. Very cute and very easy. Lay down a small piece of fabric, use a butter knife, spoon or other dull instrument to press edges into styrofoam. Put next piece right by first, press edge of that one into the edge of the last one, etc.

This is what you are looking for. I bought a kit just to see what was in it. The styrofoam board is much finer then regular strofoam but I think you can find sheets of it at places like Lowes or Home Depot. It's about 1 1/2 thick and is pink on one side and white on the other. I think Corning makes it. The pattern is drawn on a sheet of red graphite paper that transfers to the foam. You can buy a kit or just the foam board or patterns. It looks great when finished. I put the one I made on the guild secret auction table and it sold above the price of the kit.
