OK, so there I was, looking for a house today with my hubby and a realtor. When we drove by a yard sale. When we got done looking at the last house I asked hubby if I could go take a looksie at the yard sale and he said sure. He's a great guy by the way.
So I'm there looking around and they have some Vintage items, you know shabby chic. I notice a Singer treadle sewing cabinet and I look at it a moment and noticed that it didn't have a FOR SALE tag on it so I figured it was for displaying some of their stock.
I continued to look at the items in the sale and really didn't see anything that "caught my eye". Well nothing except the sewing cabinet that is. So I asked one of the gals working the sale if there was a machine in the cabinet and she said there was and proceeded to open it up for me. OOOOooooo, it was PURDY!!!! All the decals were perfect that I could see and the cabinet was in good condition. So I asked that fateful question... "How much?" I waited to hear something like $150 or more when the gal said $25.00...... I almost fainted. So I look at hubby with huge puppy dog eyes and ask. "Honey can I get it?" He took a quick look and said sure as he was pulling his wallet outta his pocket!
We got it home and wiped it off and tonight I looked up the Serial number and it is a Singer 66 made in NJ around 1921. Now I know that they are not worth alot of money,(at least that's what a couple websites hubby went to said)Singer made 50,000 of them. But I thought it was in great condition and it wasn't frozen up or anything.
Whoever owned this machine never used it or if she(I was told that a little ole lady gave it to the gal) did she took great care of it. The decals are in superb condition and the only wear that I can see is on the right front side at the edge of the machine, and there is some surface rust on the balance wheel. It also came with some attachments and a manual for both a 66 and a 99. I'm thinking it has identity issues.
I started taking pics but wouldn't you know that the camera died on me and needed charging so I'll post some hopefully tomorrow.
Well there's my excitement for the weekend, Oh and we hope to put a bid on one of the houses we saw today. Keep your fingers crossed, I know I will.

you lucky girl!!!!I know exactly how you feel!! are you planning to sew on it? Billy told me not to because it may be a piece for a museum. Hope you'll get the house, keep my fingers crossed!

Congrats, I learned on a treadle, I say laughingly, I sat on my Grams lap and she put her hands on top of mine, and we sewed, she did the treadling, and I was only two. Oh, good luck on the house.

You could ask Lostn51 (Billy) he knows a lot of Singer sewingmachines. He found out everything about mine!
