Hi, I have this quilt that has a very unusual design and am having trouble coming up with a quilting design for it. Has anyone out there have any suggestions. Here is a picture of the block. Thanks.

what size is the block? My frist thought is SID. So as not to take away from the block.

I saw a suggestion on another site recently where a piece of plexiglass, about 18in square was laid on top of the quilt. (cover the edges of the plexiglass first with tape, so there is no danger of writing on your quilt because you can't see the edge of your pglass).
Centre the plexiglass over your block, and useing a felt tip pen that will wipe off, try out a quilt design. If you don't like it, wipe and try another one. |
I am thinking an overall design. Could you possibly show a little more? Sometimes its hard to tell with just one block.

Lesley, That's a wonderful idea. And plixiglass can be found at all of the big box stores and your smaller local hardward stores too.

Welcome to the board from Southern California!!!
Maybe an all over design, such as a meander or something like that would look nice. It is hard to tell with only a small piece to see. The quilting part is not my strongpoint. I love that Plexiglas idea. I am always at a loss on how to quilt something and also how that type of quilting would look on the actual quilt. |
With all of the corners and sharp points I would do a design that has circles, swirls, or curves.

I agree with soft curved lines. Maybe meandering. It would be so pretty that way.

It is a very angular block. Some curves would soften the angles a bit -- maybe an overall curved pattern?
