This is an easy pattern for that fabric you do not want to cut up! It is from the LavendarLime Quilt Shop in Chatt., TN from their book Sweet and Simple. It is done with strips so it goes together very fast.
The beach quilt is from a shop where I bought the fabric in South Caroline near Myrtle Beach. It's a very gentle bargello. (sp ??) I realize now I can not put the Beach quilt here too so look for it next. |
I like them. I like how it goes together, looks hard until you see it up close. Very nice

Love the colors in the 2nd pic.

I like it! One reservation though is that you need a lot of that special fabric. I am looking for ways to make the most of favourite fabrics I have less of- to make them stretch to a bigger project. I wonder if that pattern would work if I made the feature squares in a framing fabric and appliqued smaller pieces of my actual feature fabric on? Hmm..... Would probably upset the lovely layout- it's very east on the eye as it is. What about the corners where the large blocks appear to cover blocks behind? Just those spots? I love to ponder- thanks for giving us a new possibility to consider. That quilt is very pretty.

Ok it is an 8 1/2 inch block in the center.
Then take the two other fabrics and cut a 4 1/2 inch strip wof and a 6 1/2 inch strip wof from both. WOF (width of fabric) Sew the two different fabrics of 4 1/2 inch strips together. Sew the two different fabrics of 6 1/2 inch strips together. Sub cut these into 2 1/2 inch strips across. Then sew the now 8 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 strips to the bottom and top of the 8 1/2 inch block. Then sew the 12 1/2 inch strips by 2 1/2 to the sides of the block. Sew the blocks together. For this size you only need a yard of each fabric! It's a lap quilt. Or go to Lavender Limes web site and send off for the pattern book. It's only $12.95. You can do this with any size blocks --- just figure what size half the block is and cut your strips! Clear as mud? It's really really easy! |
Be careful see my strips?? They go 2 different ways on the one quilt and the same way on the other!

It looks easy. Thanks for the pics and the closeups. I do better with pictures than words alone.

I couldn't put my finger on why (other than the difference in fabric used) the two looked so different until you pointed out the difference in the direction of the stripes.
I really like the effect of having the stripes all go the same so it looks layered. |
Beautiful Quilts! I really love this pattern.
