what does everyone do with quilt blocks that were too small or big or just didn't want to use in quilt. since they are all dif sizes and fabric patterns never know what to use them for. made one purse and one pillow case cover but trying to find something else to do with them.

I make utility quilts. I sew everything together, quilt and bind like every other quilt. Some of my favorites are the ones that weren't planned. Patching them when they are worn makes them even more fun. Material only goes to waste if you let it. Pass it on if you don't want to mess with it. Someone will love you for it.

I have been making some pot holders from about 9 to 12 inch blocks. I can use for small gifts. One gal makes coasters and coasters to sit candles on from smaller blocks.

Potholders. Use them under candles, lamps, or other types of knickknacks. Book or journal covers, eyeglass case, checkbook cover, coin purse, bookmark, of course depending on the size. Wallet, cosmetic bag, soda can cozies, toaster cover, small wall hanging, framed wall art, toilet tank topper, cut up for crumbs, fabric lampshade, use a block or two to make a whimsical backing for another quilt.

I can either say it's late and that's all I can think of or it's late and that's why the list is so bizarre. :lol: Either way, it's late. 'Nite!

You can also use them as part of backings.

table toppers, place mats, pot holders, candle mats, sampler wall hangings, aprons,
there are lots of small projects you can use your left-over or practice blocks for.

I've used them on the back of the quilt, but, I've also have used them for a quilt label if the fabric isn't too busy. However, I do have probably 8-12 orphan blocks right now that will be put together as a charity quilt for the MS Society.

Theres a lady that I "follow" on you tube. After ever 7 quilts she makes a quilt from the scraps. They are works of art. Shes very different and vlogs about all sorts of things. Different meaning weird. But I still enjoy watching her on rainy days. Take a look at one of her scrap quilts. Her quilts sell for thousands.

I make wee tiny quilts (no batting) for my DD's barbies. My scraps that are too small for anything gets stuffed in pillows for barbies!

I actually make a barbie quilt as part of every project - I use it as practice before starting the real thing!

You can also add sashing and filler strips of checkerboards, flying geese, mini 9 patches, etc and set them all into a quilt. I've seen several patterns for quilts done with all different sizes of blocks and then set together.
