I am fair new to tje quilting art. I wani to quilt a new"binkie" for my precious s year old gdaughter. Any suggestions for working with flannel. Thanks, friends.

Flannel makes a very cozy "binkie". Wash your fabrics first, some flannel shrinks alot.

I did a disappearing nine patch and then quilted it with pearl cotton and just did a big running stitch about 1/2 inch in and
it really turned out nice. I did it for my grandsons, in blue, brown, green and cream, it was nice to not make it too babyish. and made it a little bigger than a crib quilt. Good luck with it. |
My advice: Wash it TWICE, especially if it's meant to be washed again and again. Even the best flannel shrinks ALOT. And cheap flannel never stops shrinking.
|
I always have to move my needle one or two spot over to get a scant 1/4" when piecing flannel.

I was just going to say, wash it first!

I don't know how 'advanced' your sewing skills are, as it's a little tricky to work with, but Minkee is really, really soft! Perhaps others could speak to this.
Sorry, just reread you title. Duh to me! |
Oh but flannel on the front and minky on the back makes such a cozy quilt for a little one! minky can be tricky though.

Thanks to all of you. Now I just need to figure out how to do a big running stitch!

Do a search for "big stitch" or utility quilting.
