One of the things I got at an estate sale i just went to was a recipe box full of hand written favorite recipes. It made me sad that no one in the family wanted to keep them. The recipes included "Aunt Bessie's Chocolate Cake," "Susan's delicious Meatloaf", etc. Someone in that family will surely want to carry on the tradition of making some of these recipes some day, don't you think? I know I have favorite recipes past down from my great grandmother and grandmother. Do you keep recipes written by your relatives? I even enjoy just looking at their handwritingon those old recipe cards. it fills me with wonderful memories of time spent with them.

I have recipes that were written out by both my mother and grandmother as well as some of their cookbooks that have some of the pages that have been stuck together and pulled apart many times over the years. The pages with the most stuff splashed on them are usually favourites.

I bought a blank book after my son got married. The cover said "I'm Writing my Own Cookbook". I went thru my recipe file and wrote down favorites from my son's childhood and the person it originated with, like "Granny F's Chocolate Cake" and "Aunt Stacy's Taco Soup". Then I mailed it to my dil's mom and she did the same thing. Then we gave it to the kids as a Christmas gift. My dil adds recipes she gets from friends that she wants to keep in a special place. She's had a lot of fun with it.

When my DMIL passed away last year, we asked for only two things: The family Bible and the family recipes. I offered to photocopy them for everyone. My husband is the third of the 6 kids. No one else wanted them, copies or originals. Very sad. I also have my fathers hand written recipes. He was a chef.

My sister just gave me a box of my mother and favorite aunts recipes and just the feeling of holding the recipes in their writing that they used so many times was amazing.
I just sat there and cried. They both have been gone for many years. We are trying to make a family cookbook to share with future generations.

That is sad. I think one day the family will be sorry. My mother has all the recipes for my grandmother and we use them often.
This reminds me of my three aunts who were having a yard sale after my grandmother died. They were going to sell all of her pictures. My mother could not believe this and took them. A couple of years later my aunt came to my mom asking for them back because she did not have pictures of somebody. And to think she tried to sell them to a stranger.

I have recipes hand-written by my mother, both grandmothers, and my great-grandmother on my mother's side. I treasure every one of them.

That is so sad.

My sister has all of my Mom's in binders.

I wish I had some recipes from my mother. Sweet Darling sister wouldn't let me even look through them!!!!!!Especially the goulash recipe. It had Gr. Meat and made with tomato soup. I really miss that recipe. :{
