I would appreciate more information about the purpose and use of the free motion slider.

Thank you.Esther Grass

It is used to make the quilt move more easily generally when doing free motion quilting. I would assume you could use one when doing regular quilting if moving the quilt along is a problem for you.

i have one and have used it a bit but usually don't remember. the last time i used it, it kept being caught by the quilt and folding up a bit. I removed it.

I really like using mine. I do tape the edges down though.
I makes a huge difference in how much I have to wrestle with the larger quilts if I'm doing them on the tabletop machine. It reduces the drag on the quilt.

When it is no longer tacky enough to stay put, just run it under the tap to clean it and let it air dry.

You can only use it when you have the feed dogs dropped (unless you cut the opening for the needle much larger, which would defeat much of the purpose in my opinion. So -- it makes free motion quilting smoother and easier by reducing the friction of the quilt moving over the bed of the machine. I find it very helpful when quilting a flannel backing, or with very large, heavy quilts.

I don't like mine at all and have finally given up on it. I can't change the bobbin without removing the whole thing ... and it slipped so bad that I sewed through it a few times. I guess the concept is good, but it's not

yep, can't see the bobbin either.

Love mine but wanted a larger surface and instead of buying another one (they are expensive), I bought some teflon baking sheets and tape them down to cover the majority of my cabinet top. Really helps. I also make sure I have a full bobbin in before starting to quilt.
