One of the pieces of data that web pages can read, is what page you were on when you liked to a site (a 'referral'). That's how they know we came from QuiltingBoard.

They can read a number of different things, like which browser you're using, which version it is. Where you go to when you leave (if you click on a link to leave).

I've read threads that go back as far as '07. Thats the oldest I've seen so far.
