I've never quilted. My daughter wants me to make a blue jeans quilt. What size blocks should I cut out from the jeans? How do I sew the blocks to make a simple checkerboard pattern?

Are you wanting to make a rag quilt out of denim? Or a actual quilt? :D:D:D

I look at and measure the jeans that I have, and then I cut the largest block that I can get from them.

I cut 9 inch squares, sew 1/2 inch seams, end up with a 8 inch square. I sew the same size piece of flannel for the back.

The ones I really like from jeans keep lots of the details - back pockets, contrast stitching from the jeans seams, decorative stitching or embellishment on the jeans.

You can also cut a variety of size squares from the jeans, and put them together into one bigger square - for example, a nine-inch square sewn to a 3 x 9 rectangle, then sew three 4 x 9 rectangles together - you end up with 2 blocks that are the same size, sew them together into a bigger block.

The most important thing - have fun!
