I'm thinking about starting the Farmer's Wife sampler soon. I'd like to paper piece it, but I'm not sure how to go about getting the block copies to use for paper piecing. I have the book and the CD, but that only gives you the template pieces, not the whole constructed block.

So those of you who have or are paper piecing the Farmer's Wife, how did you make, or where did you get the completed block in finished size to paper piece on?

there are three ways i can think of off the top of my head.

(1) if you already own Electric Quilt, buy their version of the Farmers' Wife quilt software. you can then easily use EQ to create paper piecing patterns.

(2) Carol Doaks, is one of the most respected and renowned experts in the field of paper piecing. Here is the link to her website, with great paper piece tutorials, and beginning patterns to get you going. if you scroll down the page you'll find free instructions for converting pieced blocks to paper piecing.

(3) are you intrigued by English Paper Piecing? check out this page to see how it's done. (print any block onto freezer paper. cut it into pieces. referring to the instructions you'll find at this site, use them to make your EPP sections, and then stitch them together to assemble the block.)

Thanks Patrice! Sounds like EQ would be my easiest bet but I don't own it yet. Hoping it's under the tree! :) I'll check out Carol Doaks website for sure though. I have one of her books and really like it. Thanks again for the info!

another benefit of going the EQ route is that you can choose between pieced, paper pieced, or a combination. piece the easy parts the regular way and paper piece the tricky bits.

also, with EQ you can make the blocks any size you prefer.

I would buy EQ in a heartbeat if they had a Mac version.

If you join the FWS yahoo group, they have a file with paper piecing for all the blocks. Just be sure your printer is set to NO scaling. These are .pdf files.

Check with them, I think you can use it on Mac, have seen some references to that, just not sure how.
