This machine was first purchased and used by my DH's granparents, then passed on to his father and now ewsides in my home. I have this proudly displayed in our den along with pictures in a frame on it of the people that it belonged to. This is a Wizard, one of the first electric sewing machies that Western Auto stores sold. I think this dates circa 1950's but I am not usre about that.

O yes it is still operational! I prefer to use my singers and Juki, but I hvae been known to stitch a seam here and there with this old machine.

An oldy but goody , I say.They don't make them like that anymore...

Great display. Have an old treadle Singer in the basement - when I get my real sewing room, I will have to display it.

The Wizard was a brand that singer made and was distributed by Western Auto stores. They were made in Japan. If you are not familiar with Western Auto stores, there are very few left, but they were a farm store in almost every town. You could get your seeds, appliances, mowers and get your tires and brakes done on your car. Kinda like an early version of Sears!

I loved those stores got my first bike there. They also sent out a xmas catalog and I did most of the xmas shopping there. Great metal toys, no junk. I don't remember the sewing machine, but do know they didn't sell junk :D

When we were kids my parents got us our Western Flyer red wagons at the Western Auto and a wooden and metal sled too. I am sure they got their appliances at one of those stores too. I can remember going to those stores with my parents and you are right all metal toys, they had the metal tonka trucks too because I can remember my brother getting his there.
