I just pre-washed about 20 fat quarters and when I took them out of the washing machine... Oh what a tangled mess. Anyone have any suggestions to keep them from fraying and getting all snarled?

Thanks, Susan

Sometimes clipping off the corners will help.

Don't pre-wash!! sorry doesn't help now how about those bags for delicates(panty hose) only a rinse not a full blown WASH cycle and rinse cycle Happy ironing :(:(

I agree with clipping the corners. It seems to work better for me to do this. It's not 100%, but it seems to be better.

Maybe pinking shears for the edges ? I usually don't wash fat quarters

I have placed mine in the netted bags used for delicates in the washer. Also, have used a salad spinner when washing just a couple. The main reason i wash the fabric is to remove the chemicals, they seem to destroy my fingers so it doesn't take much to soak them for a bit, and then rinse with cean water and spin to get most of the water out.

I prewash all mine in lingerie bags. Works great.

I thru some of my fat quarters in the washing machine with other fabric and well....I didn't have much left of the fat quarters. I now wash my fat quarters in the sink and air dry them.

I pink the edges, wash them with other fabrics, and I then hang the fat quarters and smaller pieces (1/4 yd) up on a clothesline in my basement. I don't have any trouble with them at all. 8-)

Ok, so I don't know how accurate my theory is, but I notice that when I wash FQ with yardage, I get the least amount of tangling, also when the washer is pretty full, versus a small load. I don't even clip my corners anymore when I throw in a a full load...I am hoping this streak continues, lol.
