We're remodeling some rooms and while our carpenter was making shelves for my sewing room, I asked him to build me a cutting/pressing table based on some photos I gave him. He did great! It's not painted yet. The top and the extension leaf are topped with white laminate with a wood border. It's 24" x 52" and the extension leaf makes it 48" x 52". Good size for basting.
Now...I need a pressing pad to put on top. He cut me a piece of 1/4" plywood and I've seen posts about using a stapler to attach batting and a cover. Do you think velcro would hold the fabric cover tight enough? Would make it much easier to change. Has anyone done that? Wow - there is a lot of space on that table!
Here's a link to Sharon Schamber's video on how to make a pressing board: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LGbXou_u4c |
Looks like a great table with lots of room. Please share more pictures when you get the room finished.

that's perfect!!! you lucky girl :)

Nice table. If I were you I would cover the pressing board with batting
and canvas then make a separate cover that you can wash when needed. Velcro sounds like a great idea as long as it keeps the cover taut. Probably needs velcro all around not just small strips. The only problem I can think is that it might make it slippery. Not sure. My cover is stapled to the back and I also put some shelf liner underneath. Let us know how it works. |
Very nice, great working and storage space.

It's looking good! I'm anxious to see it when you get it all done. It's a great space!
