I am looking for an idea/home made gadget that I can use to roll up a king sized quilt as it sits on my lap in a frame while I hand quilt it.

I considered bike clips but it would take so very many and don't want to spend the money.
any ideas?

I have some plastic clamp things I got at JoAnn's that are for that. They weren't too expensive and they are lightweight. They look a little like a great big bobby pin with one side that is curved and one side that is straight. They are about 6" long.

i have never seen those

I think the plastic clip things from Joanns ( the ones I've seen there anyway) are the same idea as bike clips....
I just pin my roll together in a couple of places...

I saw John Flynn hand quilting a really large quilt using his plastic roll frame.

I'd just use a couple large binder clips. or clothes pins, or a couple clamps.. or make a 'sling' with a couple pieces of selvege and let your frame take the weight.

I wonder if those clips you get to hold your table cloth down on the picnic tables would work. They may not be large enough. They wouldn't cost too much.

Large butterfly clips (like you would use in your hair) also work well. You can buy these cheaply at the dollar store. Although it might take a lot to hold a king.
