I am new to quilting and do not own a walking foot. I am working on my second quilt at this time and own a Baby Lock Ellure. Do you use your walking foot for quilting only, or do you use it for piecing as well?

Some walking feet can be used for piecing, it depends on whether you can bump your needle far enough to the right to sew a 1/4" seam.

I use mine for quilting, attaching binding, and I have used it for piecing bulkier seams/fabrics :D:D:D

In addition to quilting, I use the walking foot when I'm working on thick projects, like tote bags. It comes in very handy and is worth every penny to a quilter!

I love the built-in walking foot on my Pfaff 7510 and Babylock Quest Plus. It's as easy to engage or disengage as raising or lowering the presser foot and it works with many different feet, including the 1/4" feet. Bernina walking foot works great for quilting straight lines, but less convenient for piecing, hard to get that perfect 1/4". Also more involved to put on.

I use my generic walking foot for both. It has a special place on it that I know is exactly 1/4". I hardly ever take it off my machine.
