    How to Upload (Post) Photos

    1. Make sure you have prepared and resized your photo files for efficient upload and viewing. Doing that will make things easier for you and for others who view your photos.

    http://www.quiltingboard.com/qb-help...g-t166655.html

    2. Whether creating a new Thread (aka Topic) or posting a reply within a Thread, once you get to the edit window, look up and locate the Image icon:
    Name: 1-Find Image Icon.jpg
Views: 4029
Size: 45.2 KB

    3. Now, making sure you are at the "From Computer" tab, click to start browsing your computer to find the photo you want to insert into the post:
    Name: 2-From Computer, Browse.jpg
Views: 4074
Size: 40.8 KB

    4. Find and select your photo file:
    Name: 3-Select File, Click Open.jpg
Views: 4050
Size: 87.3 KB

    5. Now, click on "Upload File(s)"
    Name: 4-Click Upload Button.jpg
Views: 4045
Size: 38.1 KB

    6. Whoop! There it is!
    Name: DSCN0504.JPG
Views: 4049
Size: 129.3 KB

We can add up to 10 photos per individual post.

When we use the Image icon method (inserts photos), we can surround them with text.
    text on top.
text to the left. Name: Board Sample2.jpg
Views: 4049
Size: 78.6 KB text to the right.
    text underneath.

If we use the "Attach" process (using the little PaperClip icon) the process is almost the same. The difference is that "attached" photos will display as a Thumbnails at the end of post text ... as does the example below.

    This is really great.
I just discovered something while trying instructions ...

When I uploaded my pic, and before I clicked on submit post, the small version of the pic in the typing box is double-clickable. A picture edit box comes up with several choices…
    Alignment
    Size
    Title
    Description
    Style
    This is pretty cool.

Sorry, I do not see a "paper clip" to attach a photo...is it my vision problem or just not getting it found??

    failed again

Ok settings are on standard; I found the attachments, tried to load a picture, and it failed. Maybe computer error or operator error; I have no clue.

Photo's on standard also. Still can not up load pictures. Why did the (programmers) change all the formats? Couldn't some things remain the same?

Unfortunately, there are no visual labels or icons on any of the boxes for what you're looking for. Well, there is for "font" and "size", but none of the others. Do you see those two? If so, place your mouse over all the other ones, and within a second or two, a description of what each one does will appear. Try again, and let me know if you find it !

HA! I just went and looked at Patrice's tutorial that started this thread....her screenshot DOES have the standard icons on the buttons for all the tasks....I gotta figure out why I'm not seeing them, maybe others aren't either and that's what is confusing to people!

I'm not seeing them either. I use Firefox. Possibly the ad blocker interferes with them? I have no idea. I just know that every time I visit this site since the "improvements" I feel I've wasted a lot of time trying to do things that were entirely intuitive in the old version.

    Patrice,

I can't find this window. When I'm on a thread (say the October DQ Swap thread) to post a photo, I reply by selecting "advanced" which opens up a separate window with the option to "browse" and load photos from the computer. I can't find any of the icons you've suggested here. How do we post pictures when we don't see what you see? Maybe you see something different because you are a community benefactor. I don't know, but this is frustrating.

that's a problem associated to the computers and software you are using ... i think. (i can never be absolutely sure about such things because i can't sit with you in person to observe things from your end.)

The first things to consider are the versions of your operating systems and browser software. Outdated OS and browsers won't always work and play well with newer website platforms.

Members still using Windows XP, for example, might need to download and install Google Chrome to use instead of Internet Explorer because the newest versions of IExp do not support XP.

    I See Icons Now!

    Hi Patrice,
Woo hooo...I now have the icons! I googled the status error I was getting javascript:void('image') when I put my mouse over the blank buttons and found the suggestion to turn off compatability view setting for this site under internet tools. I did that, and I see icons!

    I'm using Windows 7 with IE9.

Maybe this will help others, or might alert the programmers to something that can be fixed for all.

Well, try try again because the quick reply has the "font" & "size" windows only showing on quick reply. I have a custom built PC, and yes, XP windows home edition.

Upload failed. I clicked on the space, and it said attachments and opened a window to attach a jpeg from my Nikon view picture that always went on the old system...but fails on this one. So something is not working for me; very happy its working out for others, 'cause that means I can still view the beatufil quilts that others make!

I see I see !!! Nina (and others), just because all you see is "font" and "size" labels on the buttons, doesn't mean you don't have the image button. if you hoover your mouse over all the buttons one at a time, they do tell you what each blank button does. I had to upgrade from IE8 to IE9 to get the text and icons on all the buttons, plus I have Windows 7. Try the hoover thing....see if you see the word "image" appear.

I can't seem to make this picture thing work. Every time I find the pic I want to attach, a window opens up saying the "The upload of file failed". I tried it several times and can't figure it out. Sure do miss the old easy to navigate site where it was really easy to attach a picture. Any other suggestions?

right click on a picture that won't upload, and tell me what the properties are on it, size-wise and complete file name.

Hi, yup! 4.79MB is way too big! The max it can be is just under 2 MB, going by memory. PatriceJ has a nice tutorial on how to resize pictures here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/qb-help...g-t166655.html

But even better, if you are just taking pictures for the web, or maybe going to get small 4x6 prints, there's no reason to use a camera setting that takes them as big as 4.79. It just takes up space on the camera, memory card, and/or computer. Try resetting the camera for a smaller picture. Not knowing which camera you have, I can't specifically tell you how, but if you can't figure it out, I could find an online manual for your camera and help further. A setting that takes a 4.79 MB size file would be good if you'd like to print out a 11x17 picture, it would be nice and sharp....but just takes time & space if just taking for the web. Let me know if I can help further
