Error Reports and New Questions (Updated 17 Jan 2020)

1 Attachment(s)
I have closed the old thread. It was getting too cluttered.
Everything that needed to be noted and passed on to the tech team has been.

I am not interested in pointless complaints.
they will be deleted.

Users do have a responsibility to educate themselves.
Read what's already been posted to catch up.
Also, check the FAQ to see if your answer is there.
If you ask a question here that has already been answered elsewhere it will be deleted.

Please post new questions and/or new reports of things that are not working correctly.

For your convenience I am - once again - attaching the new instructions for adding images to threads and comments.

Updated Fix List Report (01-17-2020)

This is what I can remember or pick out of the first thread.
Remember - Do Not Repeat Reports From the First Thread.
  • Color Scheme Changes - Overall: On their way. Date not yet fixed.
  • Color Change - Titles of Threads Already Read:
    • Already works in the Archive sections;
    • Titles do already Change from Bold to Not Bold.
    • Try using the F5 key. Will trigger color change in some browsers.
  • Albums: Fixed
  • Blogs: Unlikely.
  • Reminder Emails:
    • Now lead to "New Posts" or "Today's Posts." This is a permanent change.
  • Articles: The emails that are supposed to link to Articles link to an error page because the Articles did not survive the migration. Either Articles will be restored or the emails will be stopped. Not sure which or when.
  • "Leave Page" prompt: Resolved.
The Confusing "Spoiler" thing (+ in a box, next to the Quotation icon in the editing areas:
    • Spoiler is used to post anything that users would have to click to see the hidden contents. Such uses would be when someone posts an ending to a movie and doesn't want to spoil it for others.
    • To remove it, click the "source" button and remove the text with the spoiler tag.
    • Seems crazy to me. I recommend to you avoid clicking on it. Not sure the techs can disable it.
  • Smilies: Fixed! Yahooooo!!! :D
  • Avatars: did not survive the migration. We can restore them ourselves. Go to User CP or Profile to find the setting option.
  • Remember Me: Fixed. just remember to not log out. just close the QB tab or your whole browser.
  • Feedback Feature: Not included in the new version of the board software. Am sifting through options for possible replacement. No promises. Haven't found anything yet.
  • Calendar: Stopped at Jan 2019. Fixed
  • Chat Room: Gone. Permanent Change.
Image Upload in Mobile View [malfunction]: Techs have not been able to track down the cause. Now disabled in mobile view. If you absolutely must upload from a mobile device, please switch to Full Site view.

Image Upload Fails When File Size >1.2 MB: Please adjust to this. Really, no image file needs to be >1MB. Please compress your picture files before uploading.

"Leave Page" prompt has gone away now that I changed my messenger interface to "enhanced editor" as you suggested. It probably is a Chrome glitch. Thank you for the fast solution! You are rocking the info, Patrice! Thank you!

All the credit for the speed of this fix goes to my buddy/POC over at IB.
A round of applause for him. :-)

ibex94 01-08-2020 06:16 AM

BTW, likely another Chrome glitch but the threads do not go from bold to unbold if I have read them. Time to switch over to Firefox for a while.

I use Chrome and they do switch... the caveat on that is it only shows up changed when you refresh or reload the page of listed threads.

It has worked for me for the most part unless I am quoting like I am now.

If I've done it correctly I've attached a photo - I don't see it here.... but we'll see.
It's a screen shot of today's activity - the three red circles represent previously unviewed (by me) threads. I viewed them, did not comment and left that thread. Afterwards, they each present differently on the display.
Any thoughts on why this happens? I'm trying to not repeatedly look at threads I've already viewed, but the inconsistency is puzzling.
Oh my gosh - on preview post, I can see there is an attachment....

.

if you mean bold titles to not bold, that's supposed to happen so you can tell the difference between threads you've looked at and those you haven't.
if somebody adds a comment you have not yet seen, the title will go bold again the next time it shows up on your list.

OurWorkbench 01-08-2020 05:38 PM

If you are referring to the 'closed' envelope icon in different colors, it just means that the red one is 'busier' than the blue one. If the threads you had read had been replied to since you left it, it would have looked like the others that you had not read, yet.

I thank both PatriceJ and OurWorkBench for the responses, that makes sense. I wish it was a little easier to see on the display, but such is life....

patience has never been one of my virtues, so i am with everybody waiting hard-to-be-patiently for the colors to change.
i have been promised and i know they are working on it.
that's all the news i have on that front.

I had it on FF but that fix took care of it.

Not finding Last Sign On

Perhaps I'm blind, but can't find Last Sign On. So many members like to check on their friends to make sure they are alright.

It is over on the left as indicted by the red arrow.

Thanks... I couldn't imagine that it was not migrated!

Iceblossom 01-14-2020 05:05 PM

When posting photographs I do it basically the old way. I type in the Quick Reply box and then hit Go Advanced. From there I manage my attachments. Because I use a digital camera and not a smart phone I have to transfer the photos over and reduce the file size before I can post, so they are already in my Downloads.

When the attachment box pops up, it is defaulted into the old vertical layout (at least for me, Firefox user). I have to manually change the window to a horizontal layout where the actual attach file button is on the far right. It took me a surprisingly long time to figure out just to spread out the window.

Once I do it, it stays for the rest of the day but resets the next. I'll have to do some timing stuff to see if it defaults every time I'm logged out (I never stay logged in on a site if I am not actually sitting at my keyboard). I don't always post pictures every time I'm on!

QuiltnNan 01-15-2020 04:36 AM

Please see Iceblossom post above. I use Chrome and this is the way Manage Attachments opens for me
https://scontent.ftpa1-2.fna.fbcdn.n...b7&oe=5E90022C

I have to expand the window sideways to find the Upload button
https://scontent.ftpa1-2.fna.fbcdn.n...18&oe=5E929F6F

I would like to request that Techs move the button to avoid confusion and frustration to members who try to post pictures
https://scontent.ftpa1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...87&oe=5E92AC4D

I do realize that moving items on the web page might be a big ask. Thanks for consideration

as much as i love you guys, that is not something i will ask for.
just expand the window or scroll right - just like the illustrated image upload guide i created (and have posted about a bazillion times now) - details.

Since "Chat" is gone and there is nothing in FAQ about Chat, why is there an option for "Chat Audio Alert"?
This can be found in by going to
  1. CP
  2. Settings & Options
  3. Edit Options
  4. Messaging & Notification

good question ... to which i have no answer.
solution: don't put a check there.

QuiltnNan 01-19-2020 07:44 AM

I hover over most icons to see what they are for. When I hovered over the little computer, it only gave me a string of numbers. Can you tell me what this is for? TIA

OK I have tried to read everything. May have missed it. But I don't see a way to add photos to my albums since the change.
Sorry.

you can only upload.
look for the words "Upload Pictures" in the lower left, under your album.
until the colors get changed, it might not be that easy to notice.

I looked under three albums , even with a magnifying glass over my monitor. All I found was dirt and fingerprints.

Thanks. PatriceJI can wait for better colors.

Are you trying to start a new album or wanting to add a picture to an album you already have?

We only have one album, but I get "Upload Pictures" like Patrice showed by clicking
  • User CP
  • Pictures & Albums (this should be where if you want to create a new album, you would click on "Add Album" but there is only one instance of that phrase on that page.)
  • Then clicking the title of the Album or I could get it by clicking on the photo next to the album name.
I'll sure be glad when all coloring of fonts is legible without a bunch of gymnastics or a great deal of eye strain.

I use FF and have no clue about what to do to get rid of the 'leave page' prompt. Can not read all posts to find the answer, because of severe neck pain at this time, can not be on computer very long. I do not know anything about changing things to solve my issue, am not a computer person to know all the language/words/instructions, people use.

when you are feeling better, do make a point of reading through the posts.

QuiltingVagabond 02-02-2020 06:35 AM

Patrice, is it possible to work on the situation when after viewing a picture the page goes back to top of page rather than going back to the post where the photo was? I am familiar with another forum that uses the same format as QB and it takes you right back to the post containing the pic rather than the top of page and that is so much better.

patricej 02-02-2020 08:34 AM

when i click the browser back arrow after clicking through a thumbnail, it takes me back to that post.

you haven't said what sort of equipment or which browser you use.

OurWorkbench 02-03-2020 03:07 PM

I'm curious, if when one left clicks an image to see the image and then uses the back arrow, does that enter another count to the number of views for that thread? I have been keeping track of the number of views for a few threads. One in particular, has been going haywire the last few days. The highest one day view had been 170 until the last couple of days. I did post today, so would expect it to go up. I posted at 08:41 AM this morning and the view count was 16,268 (it had been 16,046 at 06:00 AM) and now (04:04 PM) it is 19,483. That is a lot of views (over 3,200) for something in the vintage forum for less than 12 hours.
