Google as

When I start looking at quilting board google puts an ad on my screen wanting me to answer question and win a prize. To get rid of it I have to close out of it and start all over. Does anyone else have this problem? Can quilting board stop this?

I am having a problem today with the same issue. It has interrupted three times while I am writing this.

the QB can't control google.

the ads do not come from the QB.

I get the same thing!can't keep reading the board without being interrupted...

patricej 12-01-2017 04:40 AM

have you tried using a browser other than chrome?
i ask because the only time i ever experienced anything similar - about a year ago - it was specifically when using google chrome; and only via facebook; and only sometimes if i clicked on a link to something else such as an advertisement or news feed.

i have never had a problem using firefox.

My Firefox has crashed but I’m still getting those ads that cover up the posting that I’m reading. Have to start all over repeatedly. Quilt digest seems to be the only thing that is effected.

QB should have some say with Google about the types of ads that come through.

Or, you know, QB could reduce the incredible number of ads that are plastered all over the place. Just a thought.

patricej 12-01-2017 07:37 AM

i don't know why you think the QB could or should have influence over google.
that just isn't realistic.

all sites are plastered with ads all over the place.
ours has fewer than most.
the techs do as much as humanly possible to block the the worst of things.

if you are logged in, and don't have an ad blocker installed, you should see ads at the top and bottom of the page, maybe to the right; but not between thread comments.

You are so right, Patrice. Some sites have so many ads that Can't be closed that I have stopped going to those sites. It's not worth it when half your screen is obliterated with useless ads. The idea about using a different browser is a good one.

I posted re the same problem in the other thread here...I am presently using Apollo browser on my iPad...instead of Safari. So far there have not been any problems (knock wood), which leads me to believe the browser is the answer. Apollo is free at App Store and has built in blocker-- I've had it for long time. I also ot ice no ads between comments as with Safari. I use Firefox on my desktop and laptop...none of the afore mentioned problems to contender with as on iPad. But I use the Firefox blocker. I hate to say, I only have the iPad probs on QB...but it won't deter me from visiting!
