Help changing password

I had a notice to change my password in a yellow box at top of screen. I followed instructions (I thought). I received new password via e-mail and I still get "invalid password" message.

that is odd. if no one sees this post, move it to QB help center at bottom of list of subjects here.

That is weird. That you can post, but still get invalid password. Also, I just noticed an post that was yellow by IBtyen. I accidentally closed it and when I went to user profile, I couldn't find any in the last day. It was an "Announcement" evidently if you go to any of the forums (not New Posts, but the actual section). Here are just a couple

Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

I did not receive an email, but saw the announcement and went onto my profile and changed the password. I logged out and logged back in with the new one, with no problems. Maybe there was just a glitch with yours? Or if you haven’t deleted that email, have a look at it, to make sure the sender was really from the QB and not a hacker?

It was spam and I reported it. Please don't anyone click the link.

misseva - I find it odd that you received a new password via email. I also saw the announcement, clicked on it and was able to change my password right then and there, no email required. You just enter your old password, then choose a new password that meets the requirements, enter it twice, and Bob's your uncle.

Peckish: I saw the yellow banner yesterday very early and did click on it and changed my password. When I came to the forum this morning, I had to enter my new password to log in.
Peckish, if it was spam, is there anything I should do now? Thanks

Why would you be asked to change your password? Unless, of course, you are registering for first time. I'm VERY (read that OVERLY) skeptical about clicking on any popup I did not request

Okay mass confusion going on here, I see.

Murphy - the post I was referring to as spam was not the announcement. It was a completely different post in this thread by a new member with a link to another site, and a moderator has deleted it and the spammer. Having to enter your new password the first time you log in after changing it is typical. If you check the box "remember me" then you won't have to enter your password anymore.

The post instructing people to change their passwords was posted by IBtyen (I've attached a screencap of it) who is tech support and has been around here for years, and if you had read it, you would know that the post says that if you use your password on other sites (which most people do), you need to change it to keep it secure. If you're uncomfortable clicking the link he provided, then go into your profile and change it there. If you're uncomfortable changing your password at all, then don't. Some bad guy may eventually come in and hijack your profile, it's completely preventable but you can't herd cats. 🤷

Here is a link directly to the post by tech support instructing us to change our passwords. It is not a trick, it is not spam, as I said before if you don't want to click the link in the post, then simply go to your profile and change it there.
