how to closeout and delete everything
How do I quit the forum and delete everything. Reason i found a picture of a quilt that I made on world wide web and this is the only place it was posted. Shoud not be allowed with out my approval.

that's how the internet works. Once it's out there, it's out there. Sorry this happened to you. You would need an admin or mod to help you, and they seem to be backed up lately.

Everyone should know that any photo or text posted online can be copied. Anyone can take a picture with a phone of anything on the screen and then post it anywhere. How can anyone stop that? Seeking approval just laughed at these days.

Littletree, so sorry this happened to you but that photo is out there for good. Deleting everything you've posted and quitting this forum will do noting to get your photo off the web. This is the reason I don't post photos or click on any of the links to funny things, and advertisements posted by others. Many of those links have been programmed with spam, spyware, tracking abilities, etc.

I'm sorry for what you are going through and understand. While I post a lot of pictures there are quilts I haven't shown because of the potential for rip offs.
Every now and then I start going off on the lack of privacy protections most of us have on the internet. Not the optional types of browser protections and virus protections that should definitely be used. But the basic rights of privacy and ownership issues. People do not understand -- the internet is not free it is entirely funded by businesses trying to buy and sell information, specifically about each of us. Despite the good/altruistic intentions of "knowledge" it is purely greed that funds our clicks. This is why I do monetarily support sites I believe in, just like I used to buy magazine subscriptions. For forums, there are reasons why you can't go back and delete your own posts -- because they are now part of the board and the boards history. Earlier in the internet there would be "flame wars" and people would act disgracefully and then delete the evidence. Most forums now, including this one, have the ability to edit/delete (except by moderation staff) removed after a few moments. |
I have been dealing with a completely different version of the internet. A piece of property that is swamp land with no street address, 1 mile South of me, was posted on the local realtor site with their company sign at the property. WELL, somehow it got on the internet with a GPS address to MY 80 farm that is high and dry and a great piece of property. NO for sale sign on my farm.
I got a phone call from a woman telling me that she knows I have 80 acres but she WANTS the 48 listed. People were tramping all over my vacant farm and my hunters had to put up a keep out sign across the farm driveway. The local real estate office did nothing wrong but it was listed on Zillow when my hunter looked it up. I am in Michigan and the first place to give the wrong GPS was a place in Maryland. Our signs will stay in place until next spring. All of my issues and now hearing of your frustration of your quilt lets us know we can not trust the internet to be all good. As others have said anything posted on the net is open to abuse. Even private Facebook accounts are only as good as the people in your friends list. There is nothing to stop anyone else of reposting some where else. As for removing yourself from QB, anything posted on this site I believe stays with this site even if you leave. Good luck

I've found a quilt of mine "for sale" on a spam selling site. I like to share photos of quilts on here, but from now one I'm going to put a water mark on my quilt photos. It won't stop spammers, but it will hopefully stop some oblivious person from being taken advantage of and buying a quilt for $50, only to never get it.
Yes, once something is on the internet, it's out there forever. |
I took down my site years ago because of things like this. I prefer my ability to control most things. I do not post pics of my children or grandchildren for this reason. Of course I know when I post pics here I know it is out there and that goes with the turf.

As many of you know, one of my quilt images was stolen and used by a company to sell reproduction quilts. Luckily, a friend saw it and I had it taken down, citing copyright violations.
That being said, I love to share pictures of my quilts and will continue to do so. Perhaps I will watermark them...I'm not sure. Watson |
