New look of this site - just cannot get used to it.

Wondering .....
Is anyone else having trouble adjusting to the updated site? I keep coming back, but just do not feel comfortable navigating around it. As a result, I find myself using it less and less.
I also cannot make my previous signature return on my posts - used to be on the bottom of each msg I posted - now it is gone, even though I have checked "signature" at end of note. :(

d.swindle 11-23-2011 01:44 PM

Yes I have trouble but I had a problem with the other site,I'm not what you say real computer savy,I do enjoy getting on the quilting board, there are a lot of interesting and very savy quilters.

Go all the way down to the bottom of the page, and click on Archive. This will bring up a screen that you can click on what you want to look at.After you have read one of the items, it changes colors to you dont have to look at it again unless you want to. The newest posts are listed first which makes it helpful if you only want to look at the days posts. Hopes this helps you. The fancy signatures that used to be at the bottom of your post, are no longer there. The new system doesn't allow them.

donnalynett 11-23-2011 07:04 PM

It has been a difficult change for me but I think it is getting better by the day. Hang in there and keep trying!

Pickle 11-24-2011 07:39 AM

I feel the same way but I go back very day and I am getting used to it. my biggest gripe right now is having to move the message across the page as I read or type. I also do not know how to post pictures. There is a lot of things I do not know about my computer, like why I don't get other reply's sent to me after I post a reply.
I also wish I could be a grandma to some young teen who no longer has a grandma and then I could adopt them as a grandchile BUT they would have to be good at computers. LOL

pojo 11-24-2011 12:40 PM

I use too come on here alot each day. I have lost interest with this now.

cyhilty 11-24-2011 01:28 PM

Don't feel alone, this new site has gotten many of us up in arms. I use to read here everyday but well tune in maybe twist a week now to view so pretty quilts. I normally pretty good with computers and figuring things out , I spent over 8 hours 3 days ago to post a pic of a old machine I found. I went into everyones post how to post ( I know everyone does not have the same screens to view) like someone says to go to the yellow well there is'nt any yellow to go to so that put a stop for me. Sadly missing the good times past.

sueisallaboutquilts 11-24-2011 01:41 PM

Yes, Jan, me too. It will take a bit of getting used to. My biggest problem is that the holidays are upon us and I don't have the time to navigate. I think after the 1st of the year I'll have more time :D

Akes 11-24-2011 06:28 PM

I agree with you. I don't come here much anymore and now tonight I wanted to bookmark something and i can't find where to do it. I really do not like this set-up. The other way was soooo much easier. I wish they would go back to the other way. It was so much easier to navigate. I'm disappointed with this new way.

valleyquiltermo 11-24-2011 06:33 PM

Its just like learning anything else new, I'm no quitter so I will learn it because it is important to me. I just about have it all down pat now. Everyone is so helpful just ask.

SueDor 11-24-2011 06:42 PM

Patrice has a pdf on this. Maybe you should print it out and follow the directions.

Like any thing in life, change happens. Takes a little time to get use to it but we will and we will love it.

tincan 11-25-2011 08:48 AM

I quit this site. It is to hard to read. Old site was much better.Blus is the hardest to read if you have a sight problem. really going to miss all you gals and guys.

susie601 11-25-2011 08:53 AM

I am disappointed and I don't spend time here like I used to. I am getting ready to just stop the emails. I guess I will get more sewing done now????? This was NOT a good change to me. I've tried really hard to like it. But I get discouraged every time I log in.

katcox 11-25-2011 09:55 AM

I think some are doing better than others, I'm an other but I play around everyday and it is getting easier. But I think I still prefer the old site. some day I will learn how to post pics. Everything takes time, when I can't find what I'm looking for I get a little aggravated but, carry on.

I agree with you. The old site was much more easily accessed. I no longer come here daily because it takes too long for me to check out the things I am interested in. Unfortunately this means I can no longer keep up with ideas and creations of the members.

quiltymom 11-25-2011 12:48 PM

I used to get up in moring and frist thing I did was get onQB now its WHENEVER

leepat 11-25-2011 01:07 PM

I agree with you, I DO NOT LIKE THIS NEW SITE> I use to spend alot time reading and learning. Now I just look at it very briefly and then leave. Sometimes I do not spend more that 20 seconds on it. Sorry, I know alot of people have worked hard on it but it is way too confusing for me. Thanks for the time to vent. p$

montanajan 11-25-2011 11:35 PM

Thanks, everyone, for the input - I see I'm not alone with reservations re: the site changes. I generally welcome change and adventure in my life; however, this one has me stymied. Many hours have been put into the new look - I appreciate the work of the 'powers that be' - you have done what you feel is best for QB. In this instance I guess I'm a stick-in-the-mud (boy, that term dates me!); I found the previous setup easier on my eyes & easier to navigate. I will not omit the site, and will stop in once in a while, but am also finding other quilting sites now & limiting my time on QB for a while. Thanks for suggestions from other users. I'll miss my daily visits.

lisalovesquilting 11-26-2011 01:25 AM

I understand what you mean when you say it is harder to read. Having to move the text was very annoying, BUT somehow I got mine to all be on the screen at once, more like the old way. BUT I don't remember how I did it! Maybe someone can tell you how. Good luck.

SUZAG 11-26-2011 04:28 AM

This is the first that I have been on it all week, and I used to come on several times a day...it just doesn't interest me anymore because it is too hard to navigate. It's like loosing a friend... :( P.S. I do know my way around a computer...

grandma Janice 11-26-2011 05:53 AM

Is there a way to be notified of new posting on a thread I really am interested in?

aborning 11-26-2011 06:03 AM

For some reason, I just can't seem to get used to it either. Only come on here about half as much as I used to. I used to comeon here every day. Now I don't.

IowaStitcher 11-26-2011 06:10 AM

Somehow, the new look is a perfect example of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

ccrow99 11-26-2011 03:31 PM

I, too, am very disappointed. I never missed a day on this site and now I am on once a week at best. Was spending hours, now minutes. Developers of websites normally strive to create works of art that are easy to navigate and very user friendly. This site, just by the difficulty that everyone has experienced, is not an example of good development. I think the Quilting Board got the bargain basement developers. You get what you pay for.

Your signatures won't work here any more as they are an 'image' signature and they have changed it to NOT allow the image signatures. I really miss that aspect of this site. I too, am not on here as much as I once was. Have found other things to do and time to research other quilting things on line. There is so much out there!

OK, now I understand the signature thing - really doesn't matter anyway since I'm not going to be posting much on this site for now. Thanks.

Annaquilts 11-26-2011 11:40 PM

No I have the same issues as you. I think the main reason I am lingering is because I am still in swaps I commited to.

Aussie Quilter 11-27-2011 03:30 AM

I can't put into words what I think of the so called 'improvement' or I would be banned from the board. 'Nuf said?

Helen.

Grinster 11-27-2011 06:05 PM

I agree with the above. Have sent note for help...no response. I miss my fancy signature.

emmy 11-27-2011 06:30 PM

I have mentioned this in another thread. To me, the biggest problem is the numerous steps to do anything. One or two clicks accomplished your task and now it takes several. The heading should have bookmarks, My Pages, etc. for ease of use. I am computer literate, but spent an hour per day for weeks just trying to learn the basics. Even made a word document for a cheat sheet. Example: why would they change My Pages to my Blog and not keep the alphabetization?

Mommomjoann 11-27-2011 07:57 PM

I agree, I can't get on "chat" anymore! Iuse my iPad as before, it won't allow me to do so now. I miss that section.

Ohhhh, so that's where My Pages went??? The alphabetization was such a timesaver, too! I gave up trying to find
them. Not being able to add your own description on bookmarks is a real loss, too, as so many posters don't entitle their threads specifically enough to be able to pick them out quickly by their titles, so self-descriptions were very helpful when bookmarking for later reference.
I've been trying, to no avail as yet, to "watch" a couple of threads without having to post to them in order to
receive notices of new postings, but the simple "watch" option is gone; tried "subscribe", still to no avail.
New & Improved? NOT!

noveltyjunkie 11-28-2011 12:48 PM

Yes. I feel your pain, and I sympathise with you.
I miss the old set up so much and I am not going to join the throng who are brainwashed into saying the new one is better and we are the ones at fault.

I am not going to blame myself for not being computer savvy enough. I can run some plenty complicated software at work just fine. The difference is- that is good software.

All I can say is that Christmas is coming and maybe it is a sign we have to go an clean our houses, or finish our gift making instead of wasting time on the internet!

k3n 11-30-2011 12:10 AM

Hi Janice, if you click on Thread Tools which is top right just under the title of the Thread on this page, you will get a drop down menu. The bottom option on the menu is Subscribe to Thread, click here then you can chose how you want to be notified of posts, by email etc... Hope this helps. You have to do this for every thread you want to watch, even if you've posted there. As far as I can see, you can't make this automatic as before.

Geri B 11-30-2011 08:31 AM

yes, I am having problems with this "new" look....Today when I first tried to come on board, the messsage was site is having problems......did a few things came back and it is now up...but I really hate having to find the new messages in category order....they are just all over the place......so I to find myself just not "visiting as often"

tenngal 11-30-2011 12:43 PM

I agree. I know how to get aroound on the site, but just don't have the time and I've lost my enthusiasm for it. It used to be the first thing I checked every day. Also, can't understand why when I view "What's New?" the number of posts on the left grows after I click the (next) arrow on the right. Seems like you never get to the end.

FairwayBelle 11-30-2011 05:54 PM

Help PLEASE

There is absolutely no option to click on Thread Tools when reading any posts. When I am on the main page & click on Settings all I get is a message that this option is not supported by mobile. Hello?! But, I am not using any mobile device, just my desk top computer. If I try to change to the Default setting, which is at the bottom of the main page, it will not change anything. How can I get this fixed? I cannot access my old bookmarks & want to print them out because the frustration with this new set up is just not worth it.
