We are being tracked and yes they do tailor ads to what you look at. I don't worry too much about most ads though. I just ignore them.
One company called Bettersurf downloaded a program into my computer for thier ads. That's crossing a line. I consider that as unethical malware. The ads they were posting were less than ethical too. Things like "Click here to clean your computer". Usually clicking an ad like that will just make matters worse.
If you're using internet explorer you can go into your tools and change the settings on your pop up blocker to control at least most of them. Only thing is if you click on links posted here you'll have to start right clicking the links and opening them that way. It's an extra couple clicks but not a big deal.

data miner programs track the searches you do and then attach ads reflecting your interests. Happens to all of us, here, on Facebook, everywhere. And yeah, you wonder what else they are learning through your keystrokes!

You can get an addon called AdBlock for your browsers if you are using Firefox or Chrome. Removes all the ads! I love it and it speed up page loading immensely.

My son installed this program on mine.I no longer get ads or e/mails from any of my recent searches.

I added the AdBlock on my computer and I use google chrome then to yahoo for my emails and now it took off the ads from the right side which is great , but I have to click on an email to read all of it. There isn't the little arrow to the right to use to make it widen the page. How do i do that now?
thanks
