Survey scam?
 

When I opened QB, I got a message saying I was selected to complete a survey, and would be eligible for a promo item if I did.

After completing the survey it took me to a site and it said that I could select one item and just pay shipping. So I selected, and then in the small print at the checkout it said it was a free trial and I'd be billed the full retail price in 15 days after the trial was over.

I'm hoping this is a scam and not something QB is promoting.

I don't know about this one, but tax scams are alive and well. We received a message from the Treasury Dept. (!) saying we had failed to file all our income. She (lady's voice) said they will take all our wages and bank accounts if we don't respond immediately to a certain number to get someone to help us out of this situation! Needless to say, I found this humorous and certainly did not respond. The IRS does not call people. They send correspondence in the mail, if needed. Besides, how does some stranger determine we have not reported all income? We did file everything. Baloney!!!

I received an email with a survey for a weekly newsletter. Now I wonder if it was indeed from QB.

I received that email too, but my computer would not let me open the survey. Interesting....

Scams are so alive and well. I got a phone call recently, asked for me by name, said he was calling to finalize my Work Comp claim with the City of San Diego. Well, that was very interesting for several reasons. I did handle Work Comp claims for over 30 years but I never worked for the City of San Diego. So I asked what injury were they referring to? (I have not filed any W/C claim.) It was so amusing to me that I kept asking the guy questions. and with each answer it got funnier and funnier, so I was laughing and he said he would cancel my claim if I didn't settle it right now. Finally I told him he made several errors - #1 being I never worked for the City of San Diego. Then he asked if I had never filed the claim how did he know my name and phone number - told him I had no idea because the phone number was less that 60 days old and he said I put it on the claim form over a year ago. I wanted to tell him that you can't settle a W/C injury in CA without the approval of a Judge but I didn't want to give him any credible information to use in future scams.
I think he called back the next day because my DH answered the phone and someone asked for me using the wrong middle name and said he had talked with me before. My DH said he must have the wrong # because there was no one here with that name. The guy got rather inisistent and I hear my DH say, "I have been married to the woman in the house for over 45 years, I know what her name is and it isn't that." He then hung up and we had a good laugh.
We did change our phone land line about 2 months ago - we have not given it to anyone except family in case of an emergency. So when the phone rings we are 99% sure it's not something we need to answer.

I got a new scam...Amazon Prime.....telling me 77.00 and some odd cents had been charged to my account, if I did not charge that amount to my account, call them and they would resolve the problem. I did check with Amazon Prime. New scam wanting verify my CC number. Amazon is aware of the problem.

I got one that said it was from "<[email protected]><[email protected]><[email protected]>QuiltingBoard < newsletter @ threadloom-newsletter . com >" (I had to put spaces in so would show between "<" and ">"
and it had two links to a survey in it, but did not say anything about a promo item.

I also noticed that it had at the end -
"[Message clipped] View entire message"

When I viewed the entire message it appears the default is to subscribe to the newsletter. With as much trouble as they have had with "Daily Digest" I wonder if they are trying something else???????

I got an email survey too, but couldn't open it to take it because I needed a Google account to "sign in". I don't have a Google account, nor want one, so forget it.

I had one a couple of weeks ago from Amazon.ca telling me that my order of 9 packages of M&M's had shipped to a person and address in Alberta and that my credit card would now be charged for $60+ . And of course the usual link to click on if I had an issues with this.

In a different window I went onto Amazon and checked my order status and of course found no such order. I thought the scammers using such a ridiculous item and cost was quite a clever bait.

It's happened several time that I tried to open a cute site, of cats or babies, and then the Alert in Red comes up saying you need to call this number right away. I found out that if that happens, you can press ctrl, alt and Delete at the same time and it will go away. If it doesn't, pull the plug. Waite for a minute or two and re-plug the machine. Then it is always gone. Never call that number.
