OK, I'm sitting here writing this completely overwhelmed. I don't know what to think. We had to go to the mall, and I asked him if he wanted to see the machines I was looking at yesterday & get lunch at the chicken salad place next door before we came home. So we go in & we're talking to the other lady who works there & Debbie came in & we were talking to her. He asked her what the difference was in the $2k machine and the one next to it, so she shows us a little bit & then she mentions the Topaz 30 as a compromise, which she hadn't talked to me about yesterday. A few extra features, holds bigger hoops, and the $850 software package are the only differences in it & the Topaz 20, which is what I'd been looking at. He made the executive decision that the Topaz 30 was better and bought it! $3200 and I'll have it within a week. Holy cow. I will buy a couple extra pieces for it, but I'll pay for them. I want the extension table and the 200x200 (8" square) hoop.

I dare say I won't be buying any unnecessary fabric for a while....

AAAAAAYYYYYIIIII!!!!! you didn't tell me all that!! don't you have my e-mail? don't we 'talk'?? omg, omg,omg!! why doesn't my dh ever do that stuff- oh, yeah, because i get it bought before he can. well. i doubt he would anyway! but stars to the big m!! no, no, emma, i wasn't suggesting an affair! you can see why not! i was just saying fabric is temporary because you use it and then it is given away. your sewing machine is with you for awhile. at least a year. or longer. mine is already a year old and now that my car is fixed i can take it in for it's yearly check-up. i'm only about 12 yrs past due on mine.lol, but i need more than a cleaning and some oil! i get to see drs all the time.
i'm getting ready for our dallas trip. will meet a couple of friends while i'm there! i just love this board! i have been working on a quilt and had thought about giving it away. it's been on the design wall in our family room for a few days. last night dh said, "you know, i like that quilt. i like the colors and the brightness and the way it looks in this room. i think we should keep it." so, now i have to make a new gift for the person who was going to get it. just as well. i like it , too. lol. kinda fun to make something that stays home!
stayed up last night and sewed. i have one more swap to complete. i still haven't found my camera. i'm running out of hiding places that i haven't looked in. i also made a pillowcase last night. will make the matching one sometime today. then i really need to make my dgd's minnie mouse dress. optional things are mug rugs and a table runner-- more hostess gifts. easier to pick up a bottle of wine, or a six pack. not as lasting, tho'.
last night i also tore my bicep, again. this has been going on for more than a year! i am so tired of it. it just gets feeling better and then wham, i pick something up. or pull something toward me. last night i emptied the dishwasher. doesn't sound dangerous , does it? so i'm starting to feel the pain stuff start to work. yay! wouldn't you know, the bicep is in one of the arms connected to one of the hands i use to type, and somehow, the fingers in that hand are connected too. and the knee bone's connected to the thigh bone, and the thigh bone's connected to the hip bone....
and all that is connected to the money bone. under no circumstances will i be able to leave dallas without buying fabric. my ddil is deciding on a quilt design and fabric while i am there, and i'm pretty sure it will be my treat. well, she did give birth to my dgd, afterall. and she does feed my son, and do his laundry and stuff. probably a good investment! and there may be some regional fabrics that they don't stock in pa. so...... just look for me by the side of the road where the wagon went by. wagons, ho!!

Nancia, when I came here to post your light was on like you were online, so I figured you'd see it pretty quick. Sorry! Debbie said "He's a keeper!" and the man replied "Well my credit card is anyway!" When we were walking to the chicken salad place I told him I didn't imagine he'd override me and upgrade to a more expensive one & he said "Oh well, it's worth it if it makes you happy. It just makes up for all the time I'm not there." Yeah, I'm still in shock. I'm going to get Dusty to help me rearrange the sewing/guest room today, since with the embroidery arm on it might be too long for the side part of my table, where the machine is supposed to go, and I also need to be closer to where my laptop is plugged in, since the battery is shot in that laptop & I can't unplug it or it turns off & I'll need it to download updates.

I found out yesterday that the man's brother is coming to visit while he's in the US (he lives in Denmark & works in Amsterdam, Holland) with his boss on business the first weekend of September, so it'll be the first time I have to pack everything up and make the room presentable for company since I took the space for sewing. This should be interesting, putting away all my fabric so he has room to get in there.

Hey, if you see some good breast cancer fabric when you're there, you'll have to let me know! I've been collecting to make my best friend's throw blanket. I have 2 breast cancer fabrics and a pretty bright pink marble that matches them too. I just need to decide on a design for it.

Today I'm going to finish a couple small projects and hopefully get my room rearranged. Time and shoulder permitting, I'm going to cut a couple other things out so they're ready when my new machine gets here.

Wow! D'sM...Aren't you glad you checked out the Husky store! But even more, I imagine you are so glad you have such a wonderful 'guy' in your life. We will all be waiting to hear how you like your new machine. Plus all the wonderful things you will sew on it. I am so happy for you. It's nice to have a great guy in your life. My DH told me the other day that I should be sure and look for more fabric, when our guild goes to another town's quilt shop for the quilt I am making for granddaughter. I am glad he is a keeper, too. Nancia, have a safe and wonderful trip. Emma, I love your postings. Back to the moratorium...even though I have fallen off the wagon a couple times, this thread has really helped me be more practical about buying fabric so thanks to all of you.

i am well suited to the role of what not to do! i took a cooking class and the teacher nearly always chose me to burn it, or curdle it , or add too much, or too little. i probably learned more than anyone else! when we had our final buffet everyone was surprised i actually could cook, lol.

We went camping with friends this weekend and they are trying to talk us into buying an ATV. Not that I am remotely interested, but when I heard how much those things cost, my first response was: DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH FABRIC I COULD BUY WITH THAT MONEY? They looked at me kind of weird. lol

i would think you'd be used to those weird looks by now! how long have you been quilting? everywhere i go i leave a little trail of cut threads behind me! it's either that or animal hair! lol, the thread is the most colorful!

I think that about a lot of things. Actually, I thought that about that sewing machine when we ordered it Saturday too. Then I thought about all the pretty things I would make with it, and I just let him be good to me and went for it.

My ex bought a 4-wheeler when Dusty was a baby. Well, back up. He called me one day & tells me he's on the way home & asks me if I'd bring the business checkbook out to him. Then he showed up later that evening with a combo dirt/street bike. He knew I was not happy. So what did he do to "make up for it"? He went & bought a 4-wheeler too, and so did his friend who had also bought a dirt bike, who was single. Dusty was at that age in between sitting up on his own and trying to walk, so he insisted the 3 of us go for a slow ride, since his friend said I could ride his, which was stored at our house. Dusty dozed off, so he wanted to take a shortcut home. Long story short, he pushed me to take a route I didn't want to and I ended up wrecking. I mean my life flashed before my eyes wrecking. After that I stayed home with Dusty and sewed or did cross stitch while they went to play.

I'll take playing with fabric over "roughing it" in anyway any day! The man says his idea of roughing it is staying at the Marriot, lol.

lolololo! i will rough it in a cabin in the woods as long as i have a flush toilet, hot shower, good bed and coffee. and you might as well throw in electricity and a sewing computer, and you know, all that other stuff. ok, where's the marriot?
