One thing I did this year that has encouraged me to keep quilting was to buy a big roll of batting. This way I don't have to run out and buy batting whenever I get a quilt going and more economical than buying individual packages of batting.

Count me in for 2019. I find I have to make a plan for my fabric, and set goals with them so I don't go off the deep end of buying fabric just because. Now, that being said, I'm not one to drop big bucks on fabric. Seriously, for me a big purchase is 60 bucks, and I rarely do more than 30 every few months.

My plan includes:

-giving away scraps in my guessing games
-selling fabric I don't think I'll ever use
-finding free patterns and making up my own kits for quilts
-making pillowcases for charity and my home (I like a variety to change out every few days)
-use some for home dec pillows
-reducing my stash by 3 dresser drawers in 2019

Count me in. I want to use my stash rather than leaving it to others. Also, I have had a reduction in my "bonus" retirement income, so really need to use what I have on hand.

gran of 6 and LindaJane, Great fore thought on buying the batting ahead. I know you will both use up what you have.

Zozee, that is a great plan you have. I love the idea of kiting your projects. I would probably get more done if I did that. But, probably not, lol, I have several CT kits waiting for me to make the up. But, there's always hope, right. lol And, I'd just like to get all my stash in one dresser by the end of 2019. Right now, I have one dresser full, 2 Ikea bins full, and some decorative boxes with Christmas and Halloween/Fall and one with small prints for dolly dresses. And, one small chest with novelty's. Yes, I have some serious stash issues. I need to get sewing!!! I have no business buying any fabric!!

I too need to make up a few pillow cases this year to match a few quilts I made last year. And, I think I already have the fabric in stash. I don't usually keep too much yardage. Unless it's lt gray or white on white. Although, I stock piled some backing fabric this year. So, I need to finish up those UFO's and get to using that fabric up!

Gran of 6, you also mentioned working on your kits. I always enjoy seeing your finished projects.

Zozee....that's a great list of goals. I kitted 5 projects so far and hope I can stay focused and get to them. One of the things I was taught to do by my mentor that I do is make one quilt using a pattern and the full yardage and than with the leftovers, make a donation quilt. I've done this from the very beginning in my quilting life and it has really cut down on scraps. I only have two bins of scraps, which I started to cut up in 2 1/2 and rectangles for future quilts.

I applique a lot so my biggest stash issue is FQ's. I have a bunch...plus I have a lot of pre cuts bundles in a variety of sizes. I hope to kit these up with stash fabric, and use them up. They are all so pretty it's a shame they sit there unused.

I have kits that I purchased during Craftsy's sales between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Plus, I got smart and put a pattern I want to use with the precuts intended for that project into an artbin. They are stacked on a cabinet staring at me. There are 12, plus a couple in a closet. My goal is to do a "kit" a month, and maybe even more. I have a 25' wall of closets that are stuffed to the gills with fabric, in color order, Christmas fabric all together, novelty fabric all together, baby fabric all together, etc. You get the idea. My quilting friends are invited to "shop" my stash whenever they need something. I make a lot of charity quilts, and was proud that the last 6 I made were entirely out of stash fabrics. Not that you can see a difference. I also cut up the trimmings from quilts after quilting them. I cut them into 2 1/2" strips, charm squares, or layer cake size. I have a file cabinet drawer packed with charm squares I have cut. After I get the kit situation reduced I will start on the precuts, probably make a bunch of simple squares or 4 patches. Someone will love them. Lots of plans, am determined to be successful.

Granny of 6, a plan is the first step to reduction of stash! I like how you & Teen cut up leftovers & put them to use in some fashion. Teen, what a great idea-using leftovers to immediately make a donation quilt! I commend you.

Well, I have officially started on my stash reduction project. I have a kit from Craftsy of 30s repro fabric, to be made into a simple 9 patch with sashing and cornerstones. Instead of using the plain white in the kit I am using a jelly roll of WoWs from my stash. Everything is cut out and laid out beside my machine for block assembly this afternoon. I figure if I start on a quick and easy project it will entice me to keep going.

This is me, too, and why I have to join this group and commit! I've got a local discount fabric place that is my Achilles heel. I go in with no intention and come out with waaaaaay too much! No new fabric translates to no (more) new projects that spontaneously get created in my head when I'm at the fabric store. I've *plenty* of actual projects with fabric at home to get through. Let alone the odd quilt kit or two. I'm in.
