Hello, folks. I've been away for a week and have enjoyed reading your posts. Very nice quilts pictured. And I love the rationale we use for buying fabric on a moratorium thread! My excuse is I needed neutral backings for the prayer quilts. I have three quilts ready to be quilted but didn't have a backing I liked. Mind you, I have tons of fabric but none of them seemed right. I used up the last of the tea-dyed muslin and realized that is exactly what I needed. So.... off to Marshall Dry Goods on-line I went. I purchased two bolts of Roc Lon tea-dyed muslin seconds at 85 cents a yard. If they are like the ones I purchased last year they will have lighter striations running through them that looks planned. It took me 5 months to use the last two bolts I purchased, so I figure even though these add to my stash it is temporary. At least that is my story and I'm sticking with it!

You are buying the muslin for a specific purpose and will be using it, not just buying because you want to so I think it is an ok purchase. But if you really want a justification here you go: Yes, I could indeed tie-dye my own muslin (which I would have to buy for a higher price) but it would require a significant investment in a large commercial scale stainless steel pot not to mention the tea or other supplies, so I am saving the budget even if I'm purchasing fabric.

Gee, everyone is doing great. Some great projects posted, too. I fell off the wagon and skinned my knees again, just when the others had healed. I got an email from my favorite JR online store, with a great offer of some FQs for free. The JRs are Kauffman so are good quality, and the FQs are quilt shop quality, so some great charity quilts will be made for a great price. I have high hopes they will all coordinate with the stash. Then I discovered the new collection, Lancaster. Haven't bought it yet, but since I live less than an hour from Lancaster, I feel it necessary to add it to my collection of Civil War type fabrics. A store near me has the layer cakes for $29, so I will be going on a field trip some time next week. As soon as I get my friend's 5 quilts quilted I will get back to stash busting. I have made 10 quilts so far this year, a couple queens and several laps.

Here is a photo of Purple Scrap Buster. Not sewn yet and there is one more vertical column to be added that won't fit on my wall. The back is pieced and ready for sandwiching. I was hoping to use enough scraps to get the lid on my purple bin, but not yet.

I will need to piece the batting, but I have plenty of large pieces to iron together. I even have purple thread for quilting. This makes for a no cost quilt for donation to someone!

Don't you love it when you can put together a quilt from leftovers. I just FMQ one of my sister's UFO's...used a sheet from another sister for the backing and a leftover piece of batting. Looking for stash to use for the binding now. Well done WMUTeach

WMUTeach, I like your purple scrappy quilt. I just may have to use it for a charity later this year. I like your colors.

I fell off the wagon yesterday. I needed 9 yards of background fabric for a upcoming mystery quilt (king size). Who has that much background fabric all the same fabric. Not me. I have several 5-6 years pieces, but not 9 yards. So I went on the internet and found a piece that would work. So I ordered the fabric. Thank goodness I had the other colors I wanted to use. I also ordered a backing fabric (which I will use for background and 7 elephant panels for a quilt project , and 2 backing fabrics for twin size beds for my GN’s next year.

I did complete 2 projects a weeks ago. A rwb twin size quilt for my Niece and a another one I can’t remember. I used fabric from my stash from previous buys last year.

I’m going to go back and work on my BHMQ -frolic, my Halloween quilt for my niece and a pink and aqua twin quilt for my sister. All are about 1/3 done.

New fabrics look great to me. If you want to be sure they blend in, add them to top AND bottom ... And if you really want to nerd out - you can (carefully) remove a line of stitching across the middle, add some new pieces there too. Then your "new" fabrics will be completely integrated into the overall design.

I had to do some thing like this with a jelly roll race. Even though I pulled random- for some reason all of my darkest fabrics ended up in one blob. Very unappealing. Needed to be fixed/ balanced.

My sister's UFO...used a sheet. leftover batting, and 1/2 yd of binding from stash. It will be a donation for Binky Patrol
