Irish, those pre cuts certainly are expensive. Karen Brown, on YouTube as Just Get it Done Quilts, worked out a chart showing how much more we pay for each type of precut. As logic would indicate, the more cuts made, such as 2.5" squares, the more expensive they are. Sometimes they're so easy, though!

Had to go to Costco today to get cat food. Bad things happen around here if/when the cat gets cranky!

While there I bought a set of 10 heavy duty banker boxes to start fresh ($25) my stash sorting/storage. I'm hoping that most of the stash will fit, it will sure give me a good visual whatever happens. I also looked at plastic containers but don't really want to use them and my money goes a lot farther with the cardboard. Some of my existing boxes will probably still be used but maybe they can be the potential project boxes. These last for office storage for years, can handle the weight in them and stack nicely up to 4-5 high, but I have shelves. I do have to replace boxes periodically but will probably have at least 5 trouble free years.

I see this as a long involved project with boxes periodically in the hallway off and on and hope to have the closet cleaned out by the end of the year. I know, that sounds like slacking but there is a lot involved, basically every piece of fabric I have will be touched and potentially ironed/refolded.

Today though, first step is to start a new designated solids box and get that taken care of. Baby steps and doable projects, I like that. I start out with a goal and try to chunk it into 15-30-60 minute increments. 30 minutes is a sitcom, 60 minutes is a CD and if I think I can sustain longer than that, I put in an old movie that I don't actually have to watch. I often sing along to Disney movies like The Little Mermaid.

Iceblossom: Baby steps and doable projects are a great start. I have purchased some of the Banker’s boxes also. I’m not sure if they are heavy duty or not but they have served my purpose for file folders, fabric, etc. The funny part, though, is I had emptied a couple when I was sorting pictures and memorabilia. I wanted to flatten them and had a hard time figuring how to do it. Lol! It was simple once I reversed the set up process in my brain. 🤷‍♀️

I’m hoping to finish a leader/ender quilt top in a few days. I am also making progress on my newest UFO so fabric is being used.

Yesterday I completed Scrappy Stars, a Pat Sloan free pattern. Except for sashing the entire top used stash fabrics. It's about 65" X 80". I put a border I made from sewing strings onto used fabric sheets. I sew many together after I make several string blocks then trim the length to 6", then I cut the entire length in half, ending with double the length in a 3" piece. I had so many that i didnt use 2 halves of the same length & still have a lot left. I also bordered another completed top the same way in July. I will have to buy backing, though, as none of what K & i have between us will work. I've decided to gift this to my 73 year-old cousin who fell 3 weeks ago & broke her hip. She's in a rehab facility for PT, & has had been allowed no visitors since this happened 2 weeks ago. I sent her a pic before I added borders & she loved it, so it will be hers.

Last night started quilting on a quilt completely made from stash..pieced the backing too. Not sure what I will use for binding as there will not be much left from the backing which is used in the top as well.

I was going to go quilt tonight...a busy afternoon at work left me whipped so I became a couch potato instead...tomorrow another work day so Saturday looking to finish it up.

K & I went to the Goodwill in a neighboring town since our town doesnt have 1. We do have a thrift shop, but the owner is in quarantine so it's closed for now. We found several single sheets & 1 set of sheets. I chose a terracotta queen flat for the back of Scrappy Stars, so we'll sandwich that today. We sandwiched a UFO from K's daughter with a back we pieced from a too-small sheet & some large orphan blocks in the same color family. We have greatly reduced the amount of UFOs found in June, using mainly fabric K had. We bought backs for 2 kid quilts, because neither of us had that color scheme. Most of what we found in 2 big closets is now fitting in 1 plastic tub. K's husband & daughter are both thrilled that we are clearing out all these tops & unused fabric & making useful items that will go to help people in need.
