welcome, chickadee55! with that pink sewing machine you should be able to come up with something wonderful! 8-) i am envious, in a good way!
don't know that i will get much done in the next few days to complete july's challenge. i am focusing on getting stuff ready for our trip and making olivia's birthday dress. everything revolves around her at the moment. we just spent an hour on skype with the "olivia and grammi show". my husband says i get quite silly when i talk to olivia. well, duh!! soooo much fun!

i will be taking pictures of my doll quilts and the dress when i'm finished so that may be my challenge for this month. i am so excited about the trip i am having a hard time staying focused, lol! i will include a picture of the dq i tried the water crayon on. i can see using those in a much different application. just not right now. i can't wait for august's theme so i can start procrastinating right away! why put it off? lol

Welcome chickadees55---bet you HAVE done oddball interesting things in your quilts. You can't be drawn to having a pink sewing machine and NOT have some creative ways of approaching things.

Just take a thought and go with it, no matter what the pattern or method. Have fun and don't worry about 'art' title--just means it's not going on your bed

I will mount the new August challenge using some of our great reader suggestions on Monday July30.
I wanted to give any last minute people wrapping up projects time to not be distracted yet.

Unfortunately, not going to be able to finish my Kool Koi wallhanging, but will post when it is finished. Still quilting on the zendoole quilts and also got busy with some class samples, (I know excuses, excuses, excuses!) Looking forward to seeing what the August challenge is going to be.

Let's see all those goodies as they get to a point of sharing.

August Challenge

The theme is PLAY!

Notice that this is in capital letters, underlined and has an exclamation point.

So, mandatory to August Challenge is a new technique tried with fabric, without self censure and too much judgmental constriction.

Children playing just DO IT, using whatever comes to hand. They streamline and elaborate on the game and the results as the process goes on.

So preferably do not purchase something new. There is plenty around to play with that you already own. But you will have to maybe stretch you creativity muscles.

Print a photo on fabric then cut it up, haul out that old packet of dye you bought two years ago. Or cut up a nice summer beet and use that as a stamp on a fabric. Paint your fabric with bleach thru the bag your onions came in. Color fabric with crayons and iron the results. Use weird fabrics like fake fur and satin together. Use nail polish or acrylic paints on your fabric. Take your leftover small scraps with heat-n-bond on the back and glue them down in a weird order, then embellish. Draw around a leaf with a marker. Whatever! PLAY!

There are lots of oddball techniques all over the internet for this......Try something new on, or with, fabric just for the delight and frustration of trying it............then put it together into some kind of block.

Just to do a block for the sheer fun of it.

And hurry up and let us see it................

(You can of course add whatever else you like in terms of theme or the creation of final piece if you like, or just have the fun of doing the single block.)

Sounds fun Suzie. I am cleaning/organizing ALL of my sewing/craft stuff in order to be able to group like things that I have collected along the years~~~and to be able to "know" where they are when I am creating!!. Already, yesterday, I discovered things I had forgotten about. So, I should have plenty of stuff to work with. I will try things along the way. Looking forward to August!

i'm excited, too! play is something i love to do! taught preschool for many years and play and silly are two of my favorites. i don't have a plan, so i guess that's good! lol, i will have to wait til i get back from dallas to start. i still haven' finished july. and that, too, will have to wait as i focus on other commitments and everything i need for the tripphew-- i'm tired already! but excited too!

I am in the same boat as Pippi, a newbie at this art stuff.

Just need to be clear on the theme Play. It means create something by playing with ideas and new methods. It does not have to have anything to do with playing, like a game or something. Is that correct.

If I got it right, I will try this.
