leheath8, well done! Having the 4 string units in the center looks lovely.

Thanks all! I am a new quilter so don't really have a stash so just found enough different purple fabrics to make those 4 string pieced units so I could try the technique. They were part of the reason I went with the 4x4 configuration - so I had a "center" where I could use them as a focal point.

Great, so far, leheath8.... I did the 4x4, as well and really like the square measurements for this layout. You did an amazing job for a “beginner”. Would have thought you’d been quilting for years so kudos to you for tackling this mystery.

I don’t really want it to be any bigger, so I will not be adding a second, larger border. It will go on my long arm as soon as I’m done with the little project on there at the moment.
Outstanding! You did an amazing job on your first mystery quilt and made it your very own, I just love what you did in the center with your string blocks, it really adds a wonderful element to your quilt. Its beautiful!

Finished my top! If I were doing this with foreknowledge, I would use light grays and keep my golds more consistent. The gray fabrics in the border are the ones I auditioned for sashing.

Joe’s Mom: Your quilt looks wonderful. I think the values used work well.
