Anyone who has seen the paint chips in person, do they come across accurately in Bonnie's photos? I'm thinking I won't bother getting them this year.
I ran to Lowe's yesterday for my paint chips. The colors she shows are spot on with the exception of the neutral "oyster bar" which has a faint tint of green compared to the "marshmallow" and "choice cream". Walking up to the paint chip display is was real easy to pick out the bright colors and fairly easy to find marshmallow and cream.

I'm going to change orange for yellow/gold. My ORL corals last year pushed towards orange, and I'd like to use something different this time. Yellow and gold are both auspicious colors in the Chinese culture.

It's tempting to get the chips and pull fabrics from my scrap bins to match... but that's the fun and easy part. Then there's all the cutting and making and putting together... not sure I'm up for it this year, but will watch and cheer you all on as I collect clues. I love seeing the fabrics you put together!

Since I'm considering using yardage for the first time in a Bonnie quilt, the comment of Bonnie's from the mystery intro has me a little concerned.
Does she mean, not commit to single fabrics for each color? Do you think 'why not just follow along all the way' means, why not go scrappy?

I think in the past Bonnie's had too many people comment "if I'd have known that, I'd have chosen differently" so if you are that type of person, it may be best to wait a bit. I think people confuse a "mystery" with a "sew along". The clues come fast enough a lot of us are way behind by the final reveal, so if someone else waits and then starts sewing, they will still have lots of people to "sew along" with as they complete it.
I'll be honest and say that I don't usually like Bonnie's color choices, but that is a personal thing. However each and every one of her mystery quilts that I've made has found a home with someone that was just amazed at how it wonderful it looked.
I also think that if you are person that does not like "scrappy" then you may want more control of the final results so waiting is good. if you are totally comfortable with the unpredictable of going "scrappy" then you probably will not end up disappointed no matter what, whether you go scrappy or not. I myself love using 6-7 different fabrics, so not really scrappy but not all one either.
It's all about deciding where your comfort zone is - or if you can deal with going completely outside of it for a while.

Basically your choices are 1) wait til late in the clues to figure out what's going on and what colors you want to use, or 2) forge ahead using the colors you want and live with the results. Either way is really going to work out fine. As Macybaby said, someone is going to love your resulting quilt. If you pick fabrics/colors you really like, then you should end up liking your quilt. If not, it can be given away.I ended up selling my En Provence in my Etsy shop, because I had tried to talk myself into liking Bonnie's colors. In the end, I hated purple, yellow and green (MardiGras colors!) and couldn't stand to look at it. But someone snapped it right up!
